Job description
About the Position
IT Admin / Systemadministrator (m/w/d)
Company: OKAPI:Orbits GmbH
Location: München, Bayern, DE
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
About the Role
At OKAPI:Orbits, you will be the owner of our IT. Servers, end devices, network, Microsoft 365, security, and backups are your responsibility. This means you not only solve problems when they occur but also ensure they do not happen in the first place. You will recognize patterns, plan capacities and renewals in advance, and build systems that run even when no one is watching. You will have real scope for shaping. There is a framework of security guidelines and budget coordination with the management, but within this framework, you decide how our infrastructure looks today and how it should look tomorrow. You will be supported by an IT trainee, whom you will mentor. They will be at our location in Braunschweig, you in Munich, so there is someone on site at both locations. In IT, this counts: hardware is personally issued and repaired, and many things are resolved most quickly directly at the device. Your workplace is therefore in the office. Home office is possible by arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Server and Infrastructure: You will operate our Ubuntu servers and the services on them, such as GitLab and SonarQube, thinking in lifecycles instead of firefighting.
- Strategic Planning: You will plan hardware and server landscape long-term and decide what we will procure, replace, or rebuild.
- Proactive Operation: You will set up monitoring, patch processes, and capacity planning so that problems become visible before they cost anyone a workday.
- End Devices: Procurement, setup, and operation for Windows, Linux, and macOS, with standardized processes instead of individual solutions.
- Network and Security: Network, VPN, and the implementation and development of our IT security guidelines.
- Microsoft 365 and Intune: Administration of Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint, as well as device management via Intune.
- Backup and Recovery: You will develop backup strategies and recovery processes and test them regularly, because a backup only counts if the recovery works.
- Mentoring: You will develop our trainee and pass on knowledge without doing everything yourself.
- Documentation: You will document systems, decisions, and processes so that the knowledge remains in the team.
Requirements
Must-have
- An IT education or degree (e.g., computer science, system integration) or comparable proven experience.
- 2 to 3 years of professional experience in which you have not only maintained but also been responsible for systems: You have planned infrastructure, made decisions, and ensured that failures do not happen in the first place.
- A proactive approach: You look for the cause rather than the next workaround and bring things up before they are burning.
- Ownership and decision-making: You can justify decisions and costs comprehensibly, even to the management.
- Solid Linux knowledge, preferably Ubuntu: Server and desktop, shell scripting, package management.
- Network basics: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN configuration (e.g., WireGuard, OpenVPN).
- IT Security: Patch management, access rights, system hardening.
- Microsoft 365 and Intune across Windows, Linux, and macOS.
- Hardware experience: Procurement, setup, and maintenance of end devices.
- Willingness to work predominantly on-site in the office.
- English at least B2, as our internal communication and documentation are in English.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Ansible or Terraform).
- Experience with Docker in operation.
- Experience in mentoring trainees or juniors.
- German at B2+, helpful for authorities and external service providers, but not mandatory.
- Startup or scale-up experience, where you not only administer but also help shape.
We Offer
- Flat hierarchies and real autonomy: You design your workspace yourself, without three approval levels.
- Mainly on-site in Munich with the possibility of occasional work from home.
- Flexible working hours: Floating hours without core times, results-oriented instead of attendance obligation.
- Dedicated further education budget for courses, certifications, and conferences.
