About the Position

We are seeking an IT System Administrator to manage and develop our IT infrastructure in Bergisch Gladbach and at customer sites in the Rhineland.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and develop IT infrastructure in our data center in Bergisch Gladbach and at customer sites in the Rhineland.
• Manage servers, storage, and network (Cisco/Sophos) including hardware and customer installations.
• Virtualization with Hyper-V and VMware.
• Daily tasks: monitoring checks, user accounts and access rights, password resets, AD maintenance.
• Maintenance: backup jobs and test restores, patch management, firewall and endpoint security.
• 2nd-level support for medium-sized customers.
• Participate in projects: migrations, cloud connections, rollouts.
• Documentation in Confluence: network plans, customer environments, maintenance notes.

Typical week: Approximately 2 days on-site in the Rhineland or Oberbergischer (hardware exchange, migrations, on-site service), travel time is considered working time. The rest of the week is spent in the office in Bergisch Gladbach or from home (tickets, documentation, projects): 2 days of home office per week are possible if no on-site appointment is scheduled. In the data center approximately once per quarter for larger maintenance and setup appointments.

Outside of working hours: Scheduled maintenance approximately once a month. There is no fixed on-call duty. If something arises at a customer in the evening or on the weekend, we coordinate the deployment in the team, and the hours are added to your working time account with surcharges.

Your start: You will join an admin team of seven people. An experienced person from the team will accompany you for about three months, including customer visits. After that, you will go out on your own.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of practical experience as an admin, whether Windows or Linux, in a system house or internal IT. An IT education or degree is welcome but does not replace practical experience.
• German at least at C1 level: You explain to customers on the phone and on-site what is happening and what you are doing. English for documentation is sufficient.
• You learn quickly and enjoy it. You don't have to know all of our systems already, you will learn. Cloud, security, and automation are constantly changing, and you will keep up.
• You roll up your sleeves when it gets hot, even in 1st-level, and stick with it until it's running again.
• You approach problems systematically: form hypotheses, test, solve. Even under time pressure.
• You explain technical matters so that accounting and sales can follow.
• Driver's license and your own car for customer appointments, we will reimburse the kilometers. After the probationary period, a company car is possible through salary conversion.
• You live in the greater Cologne area, Bergisches Land, or Oberbergischer, so that the routes to our customers remain short.

Skillset

Must-have:

• Practical experience in server administration, Windows or Linux.
• Networking basics: DNS, DHCP, VLAN, VPN.

Helpful at the start (if you lack something, you will learn it with us):

• Hyper-V or VMware.
• Active Directory and group policies.
• Microsoft 365 / Entra ID.
• Firewalls from Sophos or Cisco.
• Backup and monitoring: Veeam, PRTG/Zabbix or comparable.
• PowerShell or Bash for automation.

Nice-to-have (one of these is enough for a plus point):

• IBM Power Systems / PowerVM.
• DocuWare or another DMS.
• Database backup strategies (PostgreSQL, MSSQL).
• SharePoint administration.
