Java Lead Developer

About the Position

Java Lead Developer - Bern, Switzerland

As a Java Lead Developer at Sopra Steria, you will take on a pivotal role in the technical implementation of complex customer projects in the public sector. You will combine excellent technical expertise with a strong consulting-oriented mindset, acting as the interface between technology and the customer. You will support our clients in a solution-oriented manner, speak their language, and simultaneously set technical impulses within the team. If suitable and interested, there is also the possibility to develop towards specialist or line management in the future.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and support to development teams of up to 5 developers
• Develop Java-based software projects (Frontend/Backend)
• Advise clients on software architectures, technical solution approaches, and project processes
• Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders
• Apply and promote agile methods (Scrum), best practices, Clean Code, and DevOps culture
• Ensure that agreed quality and security standards are met
• Responsible for architectural decisions and the review and further development of existing system landscapes
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and subject matter experts on the client side

Requirements

• Completed education as an IT specialist at FZ/FA, HF, or university level
• Several years of experience in Java development (Spring, JPA, REST, etc.)
• Good to very good knowledge in the frontend area with frameworks such as Angular or Bootstrap is advantageous
• Solid experience in the design and implementation of complex applications
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is advantageous
• Confident demeanor in client contact combined with high communication and consulting skills
• Strong social skills – a team player who puts the WE in the foreground
• Very good German language skills in speech and writing, English at a good level
• Residence in Switzerland
