About the Position
We are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer ID76299 to join our Engineering team. This role involves designing and building scalable Golang microservices for a large-scale migration from a legacy PHP monolith to a cloud-native, service-oriented architecture on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will own the infrastructure using Terraform in a "you build it, you run it" environment, ensuring high performance, reliability, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) for services running on Cloud Run and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable Golang microservices for transactional systems and own their infrastructure using Terraform in a “you build it, you run it” environment.
- Migrate data, business logic, authentication, and access from a legacy PHP monolith to a new system without disrupting end users.
- Ensure high performance, reliability, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) for services running on Cloud Run and GKE.
- Collaborate with mobile engineers to define API schemas and requirements for end-user functionality.
- Co-own the technical architecture and product experience for Member Activation features with Product and Design teams.
- Build with advanced AI development patterns and continuously improve engineering workflows using AI tooling.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend software development experience in production systems.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Java, or Python, with the ability to work across languages, or willingness to learn Go.
- Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform, preferably GCP, including Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, or BigQuery.
- Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems with experience operating high-traffic production services.
- Experience with event-driven systems and streaming platforms such as Kafka.
- Experience using relational databases with large data sets.
- Advanced use of AI development tools such as Claude.
- Upper-intermediate English level.
Nice to Have
- Ability to read and understand PHP.
- Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers.
- Experience with large-scale data migrations.
- Experience working with Identity and Access Management (IAM).
