About the Position

Bring your ideas to life at Boeing. We innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful, and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Lead Forward Deployed Engineer to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; or Hazelwood, MO. This team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders, across BDS business programs and functions, and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products.

As the Product Manager / Product Designer for our data team, you will own the entire design lifecycle of our data-driven applications and platforms – combining UI/UX craft with product strategy to optimize supply chain operations, engineering processes, and manufacturing efficiencies. You will be a hands-on, Palantir-caliber builder with deep ontology understanding, pairing closely with forward deployed and product engineers to prototype, ship, and validate workflows that enhance decision-making and operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full design lifecycle of data products – from early product concepts and high-level workflows to micro-interactions and crisp, effective visual design.
  • Develop a strategic vision and product roadmap for data products and solutions that support supply chain, engineering, and manufacturing functions, aligning design decisions with company objectives, roadmap goals, and market demands.
  • Build and iterate on a working ontology – modeling objects, properties, links, and actions – so applications are grounded in a shared, accurate representation of BDS operational data.
  • Conduct user research: run surveys, interviews, scripted usability tests, contextual inquiry, and A/B testing to understand user pain points and needs; visit customer offices to learn from the users we serve.
  • Pair qualitative research with quantitative signals such as product and usage metrics to validate decisions and prioritize work.
  • Build wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes, both to communicate designs and to validate decisions.
  • Establish and maintain the design system: typography, color palettes, components, and micro-interactions that keep the product consistent and scalable.
  • Ship hands-on: prototype and build out products alongside engineers, treating them as partners; be fluent enough using Palantir Foundry.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams – product managers, developers, and researchers – to balance user goals with technical and business constraints.
  • Define and document product requirements, including data sources, data processing, and analytics capabilities; manage and prioritize the product backlog based on changing requirements.
  • Oversee all stages of product creation including design, development, testing, and deployment, ensuring products meet quality and performance standards.
  • Write strong user stories that capture complete requirements and relate to portfolio value.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of data solutions; track and analyze product performance metrics and prepare reports and presentations for senior management.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
  • Participate in Scrum meetings and product sprints as a leader and champion of the SAFe process.

Requirements

  • Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

    • 3+ years’ experience with taxonomy and ontology development
    • 5+ years of experience in preparing, conducting, and analyzing user research
    • 5+ years’ experience with analytics tools including Tableau, SQL, R, and Python
    • 5+ years’ experience with products developed using Agile software development practices and familiarity with Tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, Confluence
    • Experience working within a Scrum team or in similar Agile project setups
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
    • Experience with product design and processes
    • 5+ years’ experience working with aerospace systems
  • Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

    • Palantir Foundry hands-on experience at a Level 5 / expert tier – building operational applications on an ontology.
    • Experience as a hands-on designer who ships code every week, or a researcher who shares detailed user research findings with the team.
    • Experience in the aerospace industry, supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering.
    • 10+ years of experience in a technology or design leadership role

We Offer

  • Competitive salary range: $154,760 - $224,250
  • Generous company match to your 401(k).
  • Industry-leading tuition assistance program pays your institution directly.
