Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

We're seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer with 7+ years of experience to shape the technical direction of next-generation digital products at Sombra in Colombia.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll define architecture, mentor engineers, contribute directly to the codebase, and drive engineering excellence across frontend and backend systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive full-stack architecture and technical strategy
  • Build scalable frontend and backend systems using React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js
  • Design and implement APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native solutions
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver complex features
  • Promote best practices in performance, security, testing, and observability
  • Leverage AI tools to improve development workflows and engineering productivity

Requirements

  • 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
  • Technical leadership or mentoring experience
  • Strong expertise in:
    • React
    • TypeScript
    • Node.js
    • Next.js
  • Backend experience with Go, Python, or similar technologies
  • Experience designing scalable distributed systems
  • Experience with AWS and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of APIs, databases, and system architecture
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
