Lead Software Engineer / Developer (m/w/d) - Mission Planning

About the Position

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer / Developer (m/w/d) - Mission Planning to join our team and lead complex projects in developing safety-critical and non-critical software systems. This role is based in Fürstenfeldbruck, Hamburg, Köln, or Berlin.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Lead and plan complex large-scale projects, including estimating effort and time.
• System Architecture: Oversee the overall architecture of the distributed mission planning system, including modularization, interface definition, verification, validation, and technological advancement.
• Team Leadership: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to development and integration teams through code reviews, coding guidelines, knowledge transfer, and the establishment of engineering standards.
• Project Execution: Independently manage software development tasks within the project's time, cost, and quality constraints.
• Technology Evaluation: Assess and select technologies, libraries, and solvers, including considerations for licensing, support, and long-term implications.
• Performance Engineering: Analyze solution quality and runtime performance using defined benchmarks, and systematically apply performance engineering techniques (profiling, parallelization, memory behavior).
• Test Strategy: Develop and enhance the test strategy, including unit, integration, and regression tests, and regression tests on solution quality and runtime.
• CI/CD and Security: Manage CI/CD pipelines, build systems, static analysis, and supply chain security aspects.
• Documentation: Ensure robust technical documentation for development, integration, and operation.
• Technology Roadmaps: Participate in technology roadmaps, provide technical advice, and support offer preparation.

Requirements

• Education: A completed university degree (Master/Diploma) in Computer Science or a comparable engineering degree; a Ph.D. related to optimization or algorithmics in computer science is advantageous.
• Experience: Several years of professional software development experience, with proven experience in a leading or architecturally responsible role.
• Technical Skills: Practical experience with Rust, C++, or solid knowledge of a comparable system-level language, with a willingness to learn programming languages at a productive level. In-depth knowledge of algorithms and data structures, combinatorial optimization (e.g., metaheuristics, column generation), and corresponding libraries.
• Work Method: Structured, self-reliant work approach and willingness to make and defend technical decisions.
• Requirements Management: Experience in requirements management and direct coordination with users and stakeholders.
• Agile Methodologies: Proficiency in agile development models and prioritization under competing objectives.
• Communication: Ability to clearly present technical issues and conflicts of interest to non-technical contacts.
• Languages: Very good written and spoken German and English.
• Travel: Willingness to travel occasionally.
