Job description

Materiaalkundig Laborant

Sittard, Netherlands

About the Position

SGS INTRON, part of SGS Nederland B.V., is a company that tests, inspects, advises, and certifies in the field of building materials and processes. Our specialized laboratory focuses on testing and analyzing various building materials. Accredited for most of these activities, we research the application, performance, and sustainability of building materials using diverse techniques. We adhere to international guidelines and regulations.

If laboratory testing of building materials is your passion or if you're interested in being trained in this field, and if safety, quality, and integrity are paramount to you, we would love to speak with you!

Responsibilities

As a Materiaalkundig Laborant, you will work in a laboratory conducting daily research on building materials. Your tasks will involve safety and health aspects of primarily (secondary) raw materials for construction. You will perform tests on granular building materials, contributing to the safe (re)use of these materials. Examples of tests include:

  • Grain size distribution: By sieving the granulate, you determine if the particle size distribution of the sample meets the requirements, ensuring stable packing when used as a foundation.
  • Composition: The crushed rubble must contain a certain amount of clean rubble and ideally no glass, wood, etc. You will visually sort the samples by material type and check if the requirements are met.
  • Asbestos research: Through visual inspection, you determine if there are still asbestos-suspect materials present in the sample. Materials that are reused must obviously be free of asbestos.
  • Other tests include the Los Angeles test, CBR value, and increase, density.

Requirements

To excel as a Materiaalkundig Laborant, you need at least a vocational education and thinking level, and preferably a degree in material science or materials science. Additionally, you must be physically healthy, as you will regularly lift heavy samples (approximately 15 kg). You are meticulous and have basic computer skills. Safety, quality, and integrity are non-negotiable for you.

We Offer

SGS INTRON offers you a position with substantial substantive responsibility. Your salary is market-conform and based on the experience you can present. In addition, we offer a good package of secondary employment conditions, such as:

  • An appointment with the prospect of a permanent employment contract
  • The possibility to work 32 to 40 hours
  • Year-end bonus and profit-sharing scheme
  • Training opportunities
  • Collective pension scheme
