The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Principal Product Security Engineer to join our Boeing Battlespace Communication System (BCS) Enterprise, based in Brisbane.

BCS is a next-generation network that is the centrepiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The system combines both developmental and off-the-shelf hardware and software to provide world-leading communications capability for ADF personnel. Our team fosters a unique culture that prioritizes innovation while maintaining flexibility and a fun working environment. We are collaborative, adaptable, and outcome-focused. You'll be part of an inclusive team that values its members. We offer a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-office and remote work for optimal flexibility.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Product Security Engineer / Systems Security Architect, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership across an existing team of Product Security Engineers/Analysts throughout the development, implementation, and sustainment of product security throughout all stages of the product lifecycle (i.e., requirements, design, build, test, production, operations, and support).
  • Collaborate with BCS Product Teams to implement Information Security Manual (ISM) and industry-standard controls, driving "secure-by-design" methodologies across all software, systems, and products.
  • Spearhead product and system security Authorization and Assessment efforts.
  • Lead threat analysis, risk assessments, and the development and implementation of security policies and audits to ensure the integrity of equipment, data, networks, and resources.
  • Act as a key liaison between internal teams, industry, and the Commonwealth; proactively advocating for BCS cyber objectives and communicating complex security requirements to various stakeholders in a conscientious and inclusive manner.
  • Mentor engineers in the principles of product security through teaching, guidance, and coaching.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Tertiary degree qualification in an engineering or related technical discipline.
  • A systems engineering background with extensive experience with security and industry standards (e.g., ISM, PSPF, DSPF, NIST, ACSI).
  • Demonstrated experience in applying relevant engineering practices, standards, and regulations throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing secure system networks in non-enterprise Defence environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in application of system hardening techniques relevant to Linux or Microsoft-based products deployed in disconnected, non-enterprise environments.
  • Superb communication skills and the ability to collaborate, educate, and influence within a multi-disciplined team.
  • Australian citizenship to meet Defence security requirements.

It would also be highly desirable if you had the following additional experience and qualifications:

  • Experience in accreditation and certification of airborne systems within a Defence context.
  • Experience applying secure software development principles and practices.
  • Industry-recognized information security qualification such as CISSP-ISSAP, CRISC, CISM, or similar.
  • Defence industry and/or government security experience.
