Job description

About the Position

Hands-on leadership for extraordinary projects, both internationally and across Germany, at the intersection of design, technology, and physical realization.

As Project Director, you will lead these projects, develop people, and help shape how ART+COM works and grows. You understand creative visions, represent ART+COM externally, work hands-on with our project managers, and advise the managing team on project and organizational matters.

Responsibilities

In practice, you will:

  • Lead complex projects in Germany and internationally from early definition through installation and handover, managing scope, budget, schedule, risks, quality, and project outcomes.
  • Work hands-on with our project managers on live projects, reviewing their plans and contracts, and supporting them in important situations.
  • Represent ART+COM in client, partner, and negotiation meetings and handle international contracts, changes, variations, and formal correspondence with confidence.
  • Bring creative and technical teams together, develop project managers, and take responsibility for critical projects or workstreams when needed.
  • Work with the managing team to develop roles, capabilities, and the relationship between project management and producing.

Requirements

  • At least ten years of experience in leading complex international projects.
  • Highly skilled in project management, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk and change management, documentation, and escalation.
  • Confident in international contract and negotiation settings.
  • Experience in leading, developing, or coaching project managers or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Open to technology and bring strong digital fluency. You can engage with new systems and technology-enabled ways of working, assess their relevance to projects, and work confidently with technical specialists.
  • Excellent English is required; German language skills would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and to be regularly present in Berlin.

Nice to Have

  • Background in an environment where complex creative, technical, spatial, or physical projects are developed – for example, experience design, exhibitions, architecture, media-based installations, creative technology, or specialized production.

We Offer

  • Work on extraordinary projects between design, space, and technology, alongside an intelligent, diverse, and committed team.
  • Regular presence in Berlin is valued; additional mobile working is possible depending on the project phase and the nature of the task.

About the Company

Media designers, media artists, IT developers, tech people, programmers, communications and product designers, scientists, engineers, and project managers all work hand in hand at ART+COM Studios. Projects are developed from their individual contexts in small, multidisciplinary teams. We are motivated by our ambition to push boundaries and, together, to create the new.

We are always looking for people who could bring new perspectives and skills to our team. Applicants please address enquiries via e-mail to [email protected].

We are dedicated to handling the personal data of our applicants responsibly. Our applicant privacy policy can be found here.

Interested?

Please send us your professional profile and earliest possible start date. We are not looking for a heavily polished presentation, but we do want to understand your track record. Please give us an overview of a selection of relevant projects, briefly describing the task and scale, the disciplines, teams, partners, and clients involved, as well as your personal role and responsibility in each.

We would also like to hear about one example of how you developed a team, project organization, or way of working.

If you enjoy working with smart people, are willing to take responsibility, and are drawn to unusual challenges rather than standard solutions, we would like to hear from you.

Please send your application by email to [email protected].
