About the Position
Job Title: Project Engineer
Department: Electrical Engineering (Design MEP East Coast)
Reports to: Managing Director
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Electrical Project Engineer reports to a Managing Director and receives specific and detailed instructions to produce contract and presentation documents.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering duties in planning and designing HVAC and plumbing systems to be used in constructing various structures, systems, or equipment.
- Assists in the various design elements to complete a project, system, or component with other team members with clear and specified objectives involving conventional types of plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and/or equipment.
- Assists in preparing complete project documentation including plans, specifications, due diligence reports, etc.
- Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work; work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and deliver on time.
- Interacts and collaborates with clients, officials, contractors, and other project team members.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all employees, management, and clients.
- Correct and update drawings and assist the project team and other staff members as required.
- Ensures that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects for clients.
- Delegation of work tasks and collaboration with subordinate staff, monitoring and reviewing delegated work for accuracy.
- Assists Project Managers in coordinating project designs with other disciplines, including attendance at project meetings.
- Performs specific engineering studies and design analyses and assists Project Managers in establishing budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives as required.
- Performs on-site inspections as required.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations with industry software such as Trace 3D Plus, CHVAC, and HAP.
- Select and schedule equipment with oversight by senior staff.
- Layout air and water side systems on drawings.
- Coordinate with other disciplines for HVAC installations.
- Prepare mechanical drawings using designers or drafters and develop specifications.
- Coordinate design with vendor supplied equipment.
- Prepare equipment layouts and general arrangements.
Requirements
- Strong and versatile building design and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with current versions of Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Proficiency with HVAC load calculation software such as HAP, CHVAC, and Trace 3D Plus.
- Proficiency with duct sizing software.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of the project development process within the commercial and retail marketplace, including construction.
- Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Highly organized, detail-driven, and conscientious.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering.
- 6-8 years of experience.
- A PE license or the ability to acquire one within 6 months of employment is required.
