Job description

About the Position

Protection Officer – Response

Deliver confidential, survivor-centred GBV case management in Ayod and support the GBV Case Worker Assistant to provide safe, consistent services. Help survivors make informed choices and access appropriate support through coordinated referrals and follow-up.

Responsibilities

Survivor-centred case management

  • Manage an agreed caseload using approved procedures: engagement, informed consent, assessment, safety and action planning, referrals, follow-up and case closure.
  • Explain confidentiality and its limits before collecting information. Seek specific informed consent for services, referrals and information sharing; respect survivors’ choices and non-discrimination.
  • Provide supportive listening and basic psychosocial support within competence. Facilitate timely access to health, specialized mental health, legal and other services, based on survivor wishes and assessed risks.
  • Recognize urgent safety concerns and seek qualified supervision promptly. Work with adolescent survivors using appropriate consent and assent procedures, best-interest considerations and safe GBV/child-protection coordination.

Case quality and continuity

  • Provide daily technical guidance to the assistant, review workload and documentation through authorised access, and escalate complex cases to the designated qualified supervisor.
  • Maintain updated referral contacts and check service availability. Agree safe contact methods with survivors and plan continuity during roving visits, access interruptions and handovers.
  • Hold case discussions only when necessary, with appropriate consent and minimum information sharing. Do not discuss identifiable cases in general coordination meetings.
  • Coordinate with WGC and prevention colleagues on confidential access to services, without sharing case lists or making centre participation dependent on disclosure.

Information management and reporting

  • Keep case records secure and separate from activity registers. Use only approved systems and apply role-based access, retention and incident-reporting procedures.
  • Report aggregated service information and gaps without identifying survivors. Participate in supervision and staff-care arrangements, and follow safeguarding, PSEA and Code of Conduct requirements.

Requirements

  • Degree in social work, psychology, social sciences or a related field; a relevant diploma with substantial directly relevant experience may be considered subject to HR approval.
  • At least two years of relevant GBV response or protection experience, including direct survivor-centred case management.
  • Demonstrated training and practical competence in GBV case management, informed consent, safety planning, confidential documentation and safe referrals.
  • Experience working with women and adolescent girls in humanitarian settings and coordinating with health, psychosocial and child-protection providers.
  • Ability to mentor an assistant, recognise limits of competence and seek specialist support. Formal case-supervision training is an advantage.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and email; willingness to travel to remote locations under approved security arrangements.
  • Strong working English for confidential documentation and coordination; fluency in a local language . Nuer is an advantage.

We Offer

  • Competitive salary and conditions in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national employees.
