QA Automation Engineer

About the Position

We are looking for a QA Automation Engineer to join our engineering team in Sofia, Bulgaria (Hybrid). In your new role, you will be responsible for automation test creation and maintenance for several parts/sub-applications of a complex system. The main focus will be on helping QA specialists cover routine Test Cases/Checklists with automation on the API level, constant improvement of code quality, increasing test execution visibility, and providing clear reporting for the teams.

Responsibilities

• Analysis of the most critical parts of the application/sub-application to be covered with automation tests based on already created test documentation or without it
• Identification, creation, and breakdown of test scenarios on Smoke, Sanity, and Regression types for more visibility and proper automation leveling
• Test and verify complex web applications and middleware systems by following best practices, using automated tests with proper documentation
• Participate in the analysis of the product requirements and evaluate information required for testing by meeting and discussing requirements with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders and collecting relevant information from other sources
• Participate in the planning of the delivery pipeline by estimating time required for testing, analyzing dependencies between different product elements, and improving visibility for other team members and teams
• Take an active role in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of misbehaving applications by analyzing run-time functional and performance metrics, tracking, testing, and reporting on bugs and bug fixes
• Available for collaboration with the immediate team and the direct line manager at all times during agreed working hours

Requirements

• Willingness to work as part of a distributed team
• 3+ years of experience testing commercial software products (WEB)
• Commercial experience of automation testing with most of: JavaScript with Typescript, NodeJS, Mocha or similar test runners
• Excellent understanding of SDLC QA processes – planning, cases, bug tracking, reporting
• Experience with distributed applications (SOA / Broker / Client-Server patterns, RESTful APIs)
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases
• Familiarity with Jenkins and/or another CI/CD framework
• Very good written and spoken English (we’re a multi-national team)
• Critical thinker with problem-solving skills
• Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence
• Strive for continuous improvement

Nice to Have

• Experience working in a distributed remote-first multi-national team
• Experience in an Agile work environment (SCRUM, Kanban, Scrumban)
• Experience with containerization (Docker + Kubernetes or others)
• Experience with Git or another DVCS
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Aerospike
• Experience with Pulsar
• Experience with k6
• University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Mathematics
