Job description

Regulatory Research Internship

About the Position

Research regulations across jurisdictions and add about 15 new entries a week to the database our clients use. Real work, with AI tools and a regulatory team behind you.

About the Internship

Our regulatory database tells companies around the world which rules apply to them, and you keep it complete and accurate. You'll join our regulatory team to research ESG laws, directives, reporting frameworks, and guidelines across different jurisdictions, analyze them with AI tools, and add them to the database. We're expanding into new jurisdictions and new types of regulation, so what you add goes straight into a product our clients use.

Responsibilities

  • Research ESG-related regulations in the jurisdictions assigned to you, using parliament and government sources, and add around 15 new entries to our database each week
  • Analyze regulations with AI tools, and run quality checks on your entries
  • Clear our backlog and keep the database current by fixing dead links and tracking proposed regulations and consultations
  • Support research projects for clients and internal teams, about two a month

Requirements

  • Are following a bachelor's or master's program, in law, international relations, political science, sustainability, or a related field
  • Have strong research and legal analysis skills, understand the difference between hard law and soft norms, and work with a high level of accuracy
  • Speak and write fluent English, at an advanced level
  • Are comfortable with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AI tools in legal research

We Offer

  • Monthly stipend: €750 a month at 40 hours a week, pro-rated for fewer hours
  • Your own hours: 20 to 40 hours a week, and you largely choose which hours and days
  • Hybrid: One to two days a week at our Leeuwarden hub, the rest is up to you
  • Regular 1:1s: With your supervisor, to set priorities and get direct feedback
  • Room for your thesis: The subject can come from your work here, the writing happens outside office hours
  • A way in: Interns have stayed on after their internship, like Ben in our data team

About the Company

Datamaran is the AI-powered governance platform for enterprise. Regulations change. Stakeholders shift. Markets move. Large organizations are expected to hold a clear, defensible position on all of it, and most still get there through slow manual work on fragmented signals. We turn regulatory, stakeholder, and market signals into intelligence that leadership teams can act on, built on 12+ years of expertise in non-financial risk. Risk, legal, compliance, sustainability, and corporate affairs teams at Bridgestone, Dell, Cisco, Kraft Heinz, and PepsiCo use Datamaran to decide what matters, and to stand behind that decision afterwards. We are 100+ people across the UK, US, Spain, and the Netherlands. Know what's coming. Act on it.

Application Process

  1. You apply: It takes about ten minutes.
  2. Elske reviews it: You hear from her within a week.
  3. You meet your supervisor: A conversation with the person you would work with.
  4. A short assessment: No more than an hour.
