Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

We are seeking a Research Manager to lead research projects in Sierra Leone, focusing on biostatistics, data science, and public health.

Responsibilities

  • Support research-related activities within the overall research lifecycle from the conceptualization of research idea until dissemination.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of both quantitative and qualitative research studies.
  • Support the development of study protocols and designing data collection instruments.
  • Manage research projects fieldwork logistics and supervise enumerators during data collection.
  • Ensure data quality control during field data collection.
  • Support data management and analysis of data using statistical softwares such as STATA, R, SPSS, Power BI, etc.
  • Use research results to write reports or manuscripts and creation of presentations/posters in readiness for research dissemination.
  • Support on the submission of manuscripts for publication and handling publication processes.
  • Provide support on staff research capacity-building initiatives and the training embedded research projects implementation.
  • Supervise PIH-affiliated student’s research dissertation.
  • Provide administrative support to facilitate research journal club sessions.
  • Facilitate the Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews for research studies at both PIH-SL and MOH Research Ethics Committees.
  • Participate in local and international research evidence dissemination activities.
  • Support the coordination of the PIH-SL Annual Research and Quality Improvement (QI) Symposium.
  • Supervise and mentor research assistants within the department.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Bio-Statistics, Public Health, Data Science, Research Methods, Demography or any other related field.
  • Experienced in the overall research lifecycle from conceptualization to dissemination.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing research projects.
  • Experience in administrative management and research activities coordination role during field data collection.
  • Familiar with common data collection tools and techniques.
  • Proven experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis skills.
  • Experience in manuscript writing and publication.
  • Proven experience in building research capacity of teams.
  • Experience in facilitating Institutional Review Board (IRB) review and approval of study protocols.
  • Understanding of health systems within African setting.
  • Research ethics certification.
