About the Position
We are seeking a Senior Android Developer with expertise in Automotive OS for our team in Sofia, Bulgaria, focusing on developing In-Vehicle Infotainment systems.

Luxoft is building up a new special purpose organization (SW House) targeted at developing In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems for the age of autonomously driving vehicles. How do people in cars spend their time? How do they interact with information and how do they best utilize the cars infrastructure in a future 2026? How to surpass all the benchmarks in automotive SW development. We believe that Software is the driving force to enable and differentiate in future environments. To achieve outstanding user experience, we build the SW House to apply the best of open source in the way that open source communities are meant to work, we focus on living continuous integration up to its most modern concepts including continuous delivery right into the vehicle. Our project setup and way of working follows agile principles scaled to a team of multiple hundred people.
Combining latest technologies, agile way of working and the continuous striving for the best solution, we will define what IVI looks like in the future together with our OEM partner.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of an end-to-end (E2E) team, collaborating closely with system engineers, product owners, designers, backend teams, and QA.
- Implement, test, and refine new features for our existing Android Automotive-based application stack.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and UI/UX designers to translate requirements into technical solutions that integrate seamlessly with the current architecture.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects, bugs, and performance bottlenecks in a timely manner.
- Maintain and improve the health of the codebase through regular refactoring and optimization.
Requirements
Must Have
- Proven experience as an Android Developer with a strong portfolio of shipped applications.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java, deep knowledge of the Android SDK.
- Solid understanding of Android Architecture Components (Lifecycle, ViewModel, etc.) and common design patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, SOLID).
- Experience working with the Android Framework and deep understanding of the system, including:
- Android Services (foreground/background)
- ContentProviders
- IPC mechanisms (Binder, AIDL, Messenger, Intents/Broadcasts)
- Permissions model (runtime permissions, privileged permissions)
- Android process lifecycle, memory management, OOM behavior, and ActivityManagerService fundamentals.
- Fundamentals of app sandboxing and security
- Ability to analyze logs (logcat), use profilers, and work with debugging tools.
- Hands-on experience with Android Studio, Gradle, and version control systems (Git).
- Understanding of the internal structure of Linux, including basic tooling, shell usage, SELinux policy, and system-level concepts relevant to embedded devices.
- Experience with Android Automotive OS, AAOS application models, HMI constraints, or Car APIs.
