Senior Android Engineer

About the Position

We are looking for an experienced Android Engineer to join our Agentic Commerce Program, bring new features to life, and support the evolution of our services and products. You will work closely with the Product Owner, Architect, and your team members to clarify business needs and technical requirements and define how to support them best. In close collaboration with our Mobile Apps team, you will introduce new agentic, AI-driven features and improvements to our apps to provide an even better experience for more than 11 million customers!

Responsibilities

• Participate in solution investigation, estimations, planning, and alignment with other teams.
• Design, implement, deliver, and support new features for our Android apps.
• Design and build the native chatbot experience as a modular Gradle module, so it can be integrated across app surfaces and evolve independently of the host app.
• Work closely with the Mobile Apps team to integrate your solutions into the apps.
• Promote and implement test automation (e.g., unit tests, integration tests, e2e tests, and performance tests).
• Build and publish new versions of our applications using Jenkins Pipeline and Google Play Store.
• Work closely with the team in an agile and collaborative environment, including code reviews, pair programming, knowledge sharing, and incident coordination.
• Maintain existing applications and reduce technical debt.

Requirements

Must have

• 6+ years of experience in Android development using a modern tech stack:
  • Kotlin (preferred), Coroutines, Flow
  • Jetpack components (Compose, ViewModel, LiveData, Navigation, Room, DataStore)
  • MVVM / Clean Architecture / Modularization
• Strong experience with Jetpack Compose for building scalable, maintainable UI.
• Hands-on experience with dependency injection (Hilt / Dagger).
• Experience integrating REST APIs (Retrofit, Ktor).
• Solid understanding of app performance optimization (profiling, memory, battery, network).
• Experience with debugging, monitoring, and observability tools (Crashlytics, Firebase, Logcat, Performance Monitoring).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Bitrise, Jenkins).
• Strong knowledge of unit testing, UI testing, and Test-Driven Development (TDD) (JUnit, Mockito, Espresso).
• Ability to investigate, design, and implement features independently.
• Product mindset with a strong understanding of user experience and customer needs.
• Ownership mindset: responsible for code quality, scalability, and maintainability.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Ability to guide junior developers and clarify requirements.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
• You use agentic SDLC tooling and AI-assisted coding (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) as a standard part of your engineering workflow, and are comfortable directing and reviewing AI-generated code.

Nice to have

• Experience with experimentation and product optimization:
  • A/B testing, feature flags (Firebase Remote Config, Adobe Target, Optimizely)
  • Analytics tools (Firebase analytics, Adobe analytics)
• Experience building global and scalable apps:
  • Localization & internationalization (Lokalise)
  • Multi-module architecture and large-scale app optimization
• Exposure to modern platform strategies like Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) or cross-platform approaches
• Understanding of mobile security best practices like Secure storage, encryption, Play Integrity API
• Exposure to iOS development (Swift/SwiftUI), as we explore multi-platform strategies.
• Understanding of conversational UI patterns for LLM-based chat experiences (streaming responses, typing indicators, graceful error and fallback states).
