Senior Backend Developer

About the Position

Join Galaktica, a leading Ukrainian IT product company, as a Senior Backend Developer. Since 2019, we have been creating mobile applications and web products for Tier-1 markets. Our team of 350+ experts from around the world develops international products, experiments with approaches, and rapidly scales solutions that improve the lives of millions of users.

An important part of Galaktica's business is philanthropy. Since 2022, we have directed a significant amount of volunteer aid in various directions, primarily supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine with dozens of SUVs and commercial quadcopters, hundreds of FPV drones, medicaments with turrets, and quad bikes. We also develop two charitable foundations: focusing on the rehabilitation of military personnel and supporting children of service members and those affected by the war.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale backend architecture for products from scratch, including database structures, APIs, authorization, access roles, integrations, and environments.
• Develop and maintain backend functionality using Express.js / Node.js / TypeScript, including server logic for key MVP scenarios: profiles, photos, discovery, like/pass, matches, block/report.
• Design and optimize MySQL schemas, tables, and queries, work with Redis, caching, and queues, and ensure performance under high loads.
• Ensure the reliability and quality of services: logging, monitoring metrics, error analysis, refactoring, and implementing new code quality standards.
• Maintain the quality of technical implementation: write unit and integration tests, maintain API documentation, data schemas, and key technical solutions.
• Collaborate closely with Product Manager, frontend, QA, DevOps, and the architect: participate in grooming, planning, and code reviews, propose and justify technical solutions, and not just execute given specifications.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience and strong expertise in Node.js / Express.js and TypeScript; confidently work with REST API, WebSocket, integrations with third-party services, Jest, and Docker.
• Practical experience in launching services or products from scratch: independently designed architecture, relational database structure, and tables with future scalability in mind.
• Deep experience with MySQL (complex queries, indexing, optimization), Redis, and distributed systems; able to design scalable solutions and explain architectural compromises.
• Proactive and independent in solutions: able to disagree, argue for a better approach, and take responsibility for the result. AI is used as an auxiliary tool for learning, verification, or routine, not as a replacement for one's own engineering thinking.

Nice to Have

• Practical experience with high-load systems and performance optimization under significant load.
• Knowledge of React and related technologies (Redux/Next) and/or experience implementing backend security tools.
