About the Role

As a (Senior) Backend Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor in our backend teams. You will take responsibility for complex components, drive technical excellence, and work closely with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, development, and operation of scalable backend services and APIs for Smartbroker products.
• End-to-end responsibility for critical backend components - from conception through implementation to stable operation and continuous development.
• Actively shaping our microservices and domain-driven architectures.
• Ensuring high code quality through automated tests, code reviews, and clean documentation.
• Close collaboration with product managers, frontend, mobile, and DevOps teams to implement comprehensive features.
• Proactively identifying and reducing technical debt and performance bottlenecks.

Requirements

• Several years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer in production software systems.
• Excellent knowledge in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, or comparable technologies).
• Experience with REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Practical knowledge in cloud-native development, container technologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
• High sense of responsibility, ownership mentality, and reliability in operating productive systems.
• Experience in agile, cross-functional teams.
• Very good English and/or German language skills.
