Senior Backend Engineer (Scala + TypeScript)

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in Scala and TypeScript to join our team in Gdańsk, Poland. You will contribute to our next-generation, passwordless authentication platform used by millions worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services primarily in Scala and TypeScript.
• Collaborate closely with the team to shape the architecture, engineering standards, and ways of working.
• Build features across the stack, leveraging React for frontend integration.
• Utilize AI tools to support coding, testing, documentation, and team collaboration.
• Ensure robust and secure digital identities and seamless access for users.

Requirements

• 6-8 years of experience building production backend services at scale.
• Strong knowledge of Scala (experience with Node.js is a significant advantage).
• Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React.
• Good understanding of functional programming concepts.
• Solid understanding of databases (SQL and NoSQL).
• Experience using AI tools to support coding, testing, documentation, and team collaboration.
• Good knowledge of HTTP, REST APIs, and modern web communication patterns.
• Experienced working with cloud environments and containers (AWS / GCP / Azure, Kubernetes, Docker).
• Experience with testing approaches and tools across backend.
• Confidence working across the stack and taking ownership of solutions.
• Very good communication skills in English and Polish.
