Responsibilities

  • Own the analytics strategy and roadmap: Define the vision for how Canary uses data, what we measure, and where we invest in analytics capabilities.
  • Be the company's analytics expert: Serve as the authority on our data, metrics, and analytical best practices across all teams.
  • Lead the architecture of our analytics platform: Partner with data engineering on tooling, data modeling, and warehouse design decisions.
  • Build and own the data pipelines and business analytics: Power reporting and decision-making across the organization.
  • Design and maintain dashboards and analyses: Provide clear visibility into business performance for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Drive strategic conversations: Identify opportunities and risks in the data with product, sales, go-to-market teams, and leadership.
  • Work directly with enterprise customers: On data feeds, custom reporting, and analytics integrations.
  • Own and evolve our KPIs and metrics frameworks: Ensure a consistent, well-understood set of metrics and aligned definitions and methodology.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive data documentation: Build processes and culture that make data accessible and understandable to everyone at Canary.
  • Set and enforce data quality standards: Through governance practices, validation, and cross-team accountability.
  • Enable self-serve analytics: Build intuitive data models, tooling, and documentation to reduce dependency on ad-hoc requests.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a BI, analytics, or analytics engineering role, with a track record of owning an analytics function end-to-end.
  • Excellent SQL skills and deep experience with data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
  • Experience designing and maintaining dashboards in modern BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Metabase).
  • Strong understanding of data pipeline tooling and ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical frameworks and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills - comfortable engaging with executive leadership and enterprise customers alike.
  • A knack for documentation and knowledge sharing - you believe that data is only useful if people understand it.
  • Opinionated about data quality and governance, with a track record of raising the bar.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and influencing decisions without direct authority.
  • Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity - you don't need someone to tell you what to analyze next.

Compensation

Target cash compensation ranges from $140,000–$180,000, including a fixed annual salary and a performance-based bonus paid quarterly.

This role also includes a stock option grant, subject to board approval.

Actual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's skill level, experience, and specific work location.

We Offer

  • Canary Days: Monthly company-wide days off to recharge.
  • Self Improvement Club: Monthly meetings to share personal goals with a budget provided for goal-related purchases.
  • Professional Development Chats: Budget provided to support cross-functional professional development conversations.
  • Travel Reimbursement: Stipend for visiting Canary offices in New York, San Francisco, or Dallas.
  • Personal Travel Reimbursement: Credit towards hotel stays if you choose a hotel that Canary works with.
