Senior Cloud Backend Engineer

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Backend Engineer for a part-time position in Germany, focusing on Microsoft Azure services and microservices architectures. This role offers a hybrid work model with flexible engagement options.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable cloud-based backend services using Microsoft Azure.
• Architect and implement microservices with containerized workloads.
• Plan and optimize cloud capacity and costs.
• Ensure security-by-design principles, including encryption and zero-trust networking.
• Propose alternative architectural approaches based on ready-made components.
• Lead technical discussions and present solutions to internal teams and customers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Cloud Backend Engineer with any backend technology.
• Proven engineering background with a strong motivation to grow into a Solution Architect position.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services (AKS, ACR, VNETs, Storage, Monitoring, Entra ID).
• Understanding of cloud capacity planning and cost optimization (TCO profiling).
• In-depth understanding of security-by-design principles, including encryption, zero-trust networking, and secure service-to-service communication.
• Strong potential to lead technical discussions and present technical solutions.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to balance business requirements, compliance, and technical feasibility.
• At least B1/B2 proficiency in German (conversational).
• Upper-Intermediate level of English proficiency.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience as a Cloud Architect or Solution Architect.
• Practical experience building IoT solutions, including telemetry, connectivity, and reliability constraints, firmware lifecycle management, OTA updates, and device fleet management.
• Familiarity with GDPR and ISO 27001 compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in SDLC and V-model development.
• Experience with design control and requirements traceability in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-204, AZ-305.
