Senior Computer Vision / AI Engineer

About the Position

Bloq.it is seeking a Senior Computer Vision / AI Engineer to join our innovative Bloq.X team in Porto, Portugal. In this role, you'll be instrumental in developing real-time detection and tracking systems for our smart lockers, helping us revolutionize the way Europe receives deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize computer-vision pipelines for real-time detection, tracking, and recognition from video, with latency and robustness in mind.
• Port and accelerate performance-critical code for aarch64, using NEON/SIMD, quantization, threading, and extensive profiling.
• Build temporal reasoning to transform noisy per-frame output into reliable data.
• Integrate sensor fusion to detect states and events in the physical environment.
• Own the benchmarking and ground-truth tooling, ensuring accurate performance evaluation.
• Collaborate closely with firmware and product teams, from sensor to operational decision.

Requirements

• Deep experience in computer vision, including both classical and applied aspects. Proficiency in OpenCV, image geometry, and signal processing.
• Proven track record of running computer vision on edge or resource-constrained targets (ARM, embedded, mobile), not limited to cloud GPUs.
• Strong proficiency in Python, plus C/C++ for performance-critical paths.
• Comfort with real-time video, including pipelines, synchronization, tracking, and temporal reasoning.
• A first-principles approach to problem-solving and a habit of measuring outcomes. You are the type of person who plainly states when something isn't working.
• Sufficient seniority to tackle ambiguous problems from start to finish and set the technical direction independently.

Nice to Have

• Applied deep learning for detection, recognition, or OCR, with the judgment to know when it's appropriate.
• Experience with sensor fusion (ToF, IR, stereo, monocular depth).
• Familiarity with Embedded Linux (Buildroot or Yocto, Wayland, systemd, fast boot), or Android kiosk and CameraX.
• Experience deploying and monitoring pipelines across a fleet of devices.
• Hands-on hardware experience: sensors, PCBs, industrial cameras.
