About the Position

We are looking for a Senior Credit Restructuring & Recovery Expert to join ING Bank in Luxembourg. Based in Luxembourg City, you will join ING’s Credit Restructuring & Recovery function, focusing on Business Banking real estate portfolio and progressively covering Wholesale Banking and material Private Banking exposures. The role combines hands-on restructuring expertise, recovery strategy, and portfolio oversight for higher-risk and non-performing clients, with a strong focus on value preservation, risk mitigation, and responsible client outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support restructuring and recovery cases for Business Banking real estate clients, including higher-risk, watchlist, forborne, and non-performing exposures.
  • Analyse borrower viability, cash flows, repayment capacity, collateral values, guarantee structures, legal documentation, and recovery options to define appropriate case strategies.
  • Develop and negotiate restructuring solutions, including amended repayment plans, covenant resets, collateral enhancements, refinancing options, standstill arrangements, and exit strategies.
  • Prepare clear restructuring and recovery recommendations, including risk assessment, expected recovery, provisions, classification, forbearance treatment, and decision conditions.
  • Monitor assigned restructuring portfolios, including milestones, collateral developments, covenant compliance, impairment indicators, recovery performance, and early-warning signals.
  • Work with Wholesale Banking, Private Banking, Credit Risk, Legal, Finance, external valuers, and advisers to ensure coordinated case management and robust documentation.
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews and governance forums by identifying emerging risks, concentrations, recovery trends, and opportunities to reduce non-performing exposures.
  • Support the gradual expansion of restructuring coverage to Wholesale Banking and material Private Banking exposures, applying consistent workout standards and strong risk culture.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, law, or a related discipline.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in credit risk, restructuring, recovery, special asset management, real estate finance, workout management, or distressed credit.
  • Strong understanding of lending, collateral valuation, loan documentation, guarantees, repayment structures, covenant frameworks, and enforcement considerations.
  • Ability to analyse financial statements, cash flows, borrower viability, collateral coverage, recovery scenarios, and impairment drivers.
  • Experience preparing restructuring proposals, recovery strategies, credit recommendations, watchlist papers, or non-performing exposure reviews.
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills, including the ability to engage constructively with clients, advisers, and internal decision makers.
  • Sound judgement, ownership mindset, and the ability to manage sensitive, time-critical, and sometimes contentious cases with professionalism and resilience.
  • Good understanding of forbearance, default, provisioning, collateral monitoring, and non-performing exposure governance is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and/or French; Another European language is an advantage.

We Offer

  • A high-impact restructuring and recovery role focused on Business Banking real estate, with future exposure to Wholesale Banking and material Private Banking cases.
  • Meaningful ownership of complex credit situations, recovery strategies, and portfolio outcomes, with direct interaction across Risk, Wholesale Banking, Private Banking, Legal, and Finance.
  • The opportunity to strengthen ING Luxembourg’s restructuring, recovery, and non-performing exposure management capabilities while contributing to a strong risk culture.
