About the Position
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our client, Scribd, one of the world’s largest digital reading subscription platforms, providing access to ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, documents, and exclusive content for more than 1.5 million subscribers across nearly every country.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data processing systems, building scalable data pipelines, and working with massive datasets. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop reliable data infrastructure that powers multiple business domains, including Payments and Perks.
This remote position is ideal for someone with a strong background in big data technologies who enjoys building scalable data platforms in a highly collaborative engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines;
- Build and optimize large-scale data processing systems;
- Work with complex datasets to deliver reliable and scalable data solutions;
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams across multiple data-focused initiatives;
- Contribute to projects in domains such as Payments and Perks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, building and managing end-to-end data pipelines on large and complex datasets;
- Expertise in Scala, Java, or Python;
- Experience building scalable software using big data technologies (such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Flink, Samza, Storm, Elasticsearch, Druid, or Cassandra);
- Fluency in at least one dialect of SQL;
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Strong understanding of AWS data platform services and their strengths and weaknesses;
- Experience with Databricks;
- Strong experience using Jira, Slack, Git, GitHub, Docker, and Terraform;
- Comfortable using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) as part of daily engineering workflow.
About the Project
Scribd is one of the world’s leading digital reading subscription platforms, offering access to ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, documents, and exclusive content. The engineering organization consists of multiple specialized teams, including Platform Engineering, ML Infrastructure, Infrastructure, and Big Data.
The Big Data organization is divided into smaller cross-functional teams that rotate every quarter, giving engineers the opportunity to contribute to different initiatives and business areas. Current projects focus primarily on the Payments and Perks domains.

Python, SQL, Spark, Databricks, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Airflow, AWS, Terraform, Git, GitHub.
Team Composition
KITRUM team: 17 engineers across multiple teams.
Client-side engineering organization includes Platform Engineering, ML Infrastructure, Service Foundations, Payment, and Big Data teams. The Big Data team consists of approximately 12 Data Engineers led by an Infrastructure Lead.
Working Conditions
- Work schedule: Full-time with working hours as close to the Pacific Time Zone as possible. The Ukrainian team typically works regular local hours with occasional evening meetings (no later than 9:00 PM local time) for international collaboration.
- Agile Methodology: Two-week sprints with Agile ceremonies
- Participating in a rotating 12-hour on-call schedule every few weeks to respond to production incidents if needed
- Fully Remote
- Long-term project (12+ months).
