Senior Data Platform Engineer

About the Position

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Data Platform Engineer to architect and develop a highly scalable data infrastructure for a fast-growing AI-powered vertical software startup revolutionizing retail and commerce operations. This role requires designing robust data systems capable of handling massive financial and operational datasets while delivering real-time insights through advanced AI integration. You will work with cutting-edge data technologies to build the backbone that powers financial forecasting, demand planning, and inventory optimization for leading e-commerce brands at enterprise scale.

Working hours - EST time zone.

Responsibilities

• Own data platform performance and pipeline health - independently investigate and resolve issues, keep the team regularly updated on progress, and report outcomes rather than seeking approval at every step.
• Prioritizes rapid issue resolution and pragmatic fixes over theoretical code perfection to keep customer operations running smoothly.
• Work closely with product managers and stakeholders, keeping them informed during production incidents.
• Comfortable shifting priorities on short notice when needed.

Requirements

• 6+ years designing and building SQL-based data warehouses (BigQuery or Snowflake).
• Hands-on experience with Airbyte for ingestion (including building custom YAML files) and DBT for transforms.
• 6+ years of professional development experience with modern languages (Python and/or SQL) focused on data engineering, testing, and downstream pipeline validation.
• Comfortable taking ownership during incidents - acts independently, without waiting for approval.
• Daily, hands-on experience with Claude Code or similar agentic coding tools (or strong readiness to adopt one quickly).
• Comfortable working with multi-tenant BigQuery consumption via MCP servers.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to consumer finance / retail metrics (P&L statements, cohort and retention analysis).
