Senior Developer

About the Position

We are looking for a Senior Developer to join our Software Engineering Excellence (TDD) unit at Statkraft. Our teams work across software engineering, platform engineering, data services, and technical excellence, collaborating with business and technology experts throughout Statkraft. Together, we develop the digital products and platforms that help drive the energy transition while creating lasting value for one of Europe's leading renewable energy companies.

Responsibilities

• Develop software used to plan and optimize Statkraft’s Nordic hydropower production over the next 1–10 days.
• Build Python and C++ libraries for watercourse modeling, optimization algorithms, and running the SHOP optimization engine.
• Ensure good software engineering fundamentals: clean APIs, clear module boundaries, semantic versioning, and proper release management.
• Develop in a traditional Linux environment using Fedora, distribute software as native RPM packages, and deploy services as Helm charts to Kubernetes clusters.

Requirements

• Core Skills:

  • Strong programmer in Python, with C++ (CMake) a strong plus and TypeScript a plus.
  • Good at library and API design: clear module boundaries, versioned interfaces, and deprecation paths.
  • Experience with package ecosystem and CI/CD: Linux packaging (RPM/dnf), GitLab CI, and containers.
  • Productive use of AI coding agents for large mechanical refactorings, while maintaining quality and testability.

• Soft Skills:

  • Comfortable with cleanup work: large refactorings, deleting code, moving reporting and collectors.
  • Thinks in terms of the developers who use the software: examples and documentation.
  • Good social and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English and preferably Norwegian.
  • Pro-active team player who feels responsible and enjoys challenging themselves.
  • Have a drive for excellence.

• Other Useful Skills:

  • Kubernetes/Helm is a plus, not a requirement.
