About the Client

Our client is an international fintech company providing digital business payment solutions for SMEs, startups, freelancers, and cross-border businesses. They offer a wide range of services, including business accounts, multi-currency payments, and expense management, across Europe and beyond.

Role Overview

As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing the day-to-day accounting for the Finnish legal entity. This position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in Finnish accounting requirements, while collaborating with an international finance team. You will have the chance to improve accounting processes and ensure compliance with local regulations, significantly contributing to the company's growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of day-to-day accounting for the Finnish legal entity, daily bookkeeping, postings, and reconciliations.
• Work directly with the CFO to maintain accurate financial records and provide expertise on local accounting matters.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes and prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with Finnish GAAP (FAS).
• Prepare and submit VAT returns, local tax filings, and other statutory reports, ensuring compliance with Finnish regulations.
• Develop and improve accounting processes and internal controls as the Finnish entity becomes the company’s primary operating hub.
• Identify and resolve gaps in accounting workflows, taking a practical, hands-on approach.
• Coordinate with external accountants and auditors, handle audit inquiries, and maintain audit-ready documentation while retaining internal ownership of accounting results.

Requirements

• 6+ years of proven experience as a Financial Accountant, Accountant, or in a comparable role with independent responsibility for a Finnish legal entity.
• Strong knowledge of Finnish GAAP (FAS), local tax regulations, and VAT filing requirements.
• Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as Xero, Netvisor, SAP, or similar platforms, including careful manual cross-checking and reconciliation.
• Experience coordinating with external accountants and auditors.
• Based in Finland and fluent in Finnish.
• Strong English communication skills.
• Experience in fintech.
