Senior Full Stack Engineer (Local)

About the Position

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our Local team.

Product Overview

Local is a QR-based payment, ordering, and loyalty platform built for the hospitality and healthcare sectors across the GCC. We power 200+ venues - from restaurants and hotels to healthcare providers - across Bahrain, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Our platform replaces traditional card machines with a seamless, browser-based experience: scan, order, pay, and earn loyalty - all in under 30 seconds.

Role Overview

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to take ownership of critical parts of our platform and help shape the technical direction of Local. This is a senior individual contributor role - you'll write code, make architectural decisions, and mentor other engineers, but you won't be managing a team. You'll work across the stack, from our Next.js frontend to our backend services, building the systems that power payments, ordering, and integrations for hundreds of venues.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain features across the full stack - frontend, backend, APIs, and infrastructure
• Take ownership of major platform areas: payments, ordering, POS integrations, loyalty, or analytics
• Make architectural and technical decisions that scale with the business
• Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance
• Collaborate with product and operations to translate business needs into technical solutions
• Improve code quality, testing practices, and development workflows
• Work on backend modernization - our backend is currently PHP, and we're evolving toward modern backend technologies
• Integrate with third-party systems including restaurant POS platforms (Foodics, GrubTech, etc.) and payment providers

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in full stack development
• Strong proficiency in React and Next.js
• Solid backend experience with one or more of: Go, Python, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or similar
• Experience with PHP (our current backend) is useful but not required
• Proficiency with AWS services and cloud infrastructure
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and working with third-party integrations
• Understanding of relational databases, data modeling, and query optimization
• Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar on engineering quality
• AI-fluent - actively uses AI-assisted development tools to increase productivity and code quality
• Comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Upper-intermediate or higher English level

Nice to Have

• Experience with React Native or mobile development
• Background in food tech, POS technology, or hospitality platforms
• Experience with payment processing or fintech systems
• Familiarity with Tailwind CSS
• Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment
