About the Position

Edge Run, a western hardware company creating power exoskeletons for Ukrainian frontline units, is expanding its operational activities in Kyiv and is hiring its first hardware engineer. This role involves setting up a lab, diagnosing and fixing hardware issues, and ensuring the reliability of devices that reach soldiers.

This is one of the first key hires for the Ukrainian team. You will set up the lab, define how Edge Run tests and diagnoses devices, and eventually become the technical support for a small engineering team in Kyiv.

Responsibilities

  • Open faulty or unstable prototypes, find the problem using an oscilloscope, and fix it.
  • Flash firmware packages received from the firmware team and ensure the entire flashing process works correctly from start to finish.
  • Accept engineering deliveries, conduct quality checks, keep records, inventory, and test each device before handing it over to the unit.
  • Specify and set up the repair workstation: oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG/SWD, soldering and repair station, lab power supply, multimeter, hairdryer, microscope. Responsible for sourcing and purchasing equipment from Kyiv suppliers.
  • Deeply understand the current device: BLDC/PMSM motor drive, battery behavior and battery management system, charging, Li-ion safety. Document typical faults and vulnerabilities of the device.
  • Convert field problems into clear and practical engineering reports: with photos, oscilloscope captures, logs, and recommended next steps for verification.
  • As the team grows, mentor junior engineers and conduct technical interviews.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of practical experience in electronics on devices that have already been manufactured and used.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and understand the layout of printed circuit boards of medium complexity, including multi-layer boards.
  • Confident use of an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, and lab power supply.
  • Proficient SMT soldering and repair skills for small components up to 0402.
  • Experience with firmware flashing via JTAG/SWD, such as J-Link, ST-Link, or similar tools.
  • Practical experience in at least one of the following areas: BLDC/PMSM motor drives, Li-ion BMS, or power electronics.
  • Native Ukrainian and working English at B2+ level: daily written communication will be in English with the English-speaking founding team, and weekly video calls are also planned.
  • Residence in Kyiv or willingness to relocate within 30 days. On-site work at the repair workstation 3–4 days a week.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in military technologies, UAVs, robotics, prosthetics, electric vehicles, or industrial automation.
  • Ability to read embedded C at a level sufficient for porting a driver or understanding the device startup sequence.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly and confident work with FDM/SLA 3D printing.
  • Previous service in the Ukrainian Defense Forces or close cooperation with a military unit.
  • Basic Python for test scripts and log parsing.
  • Previous experience as a Field Application Engineer in a semiconductor distributor or hardware startup.
