About the Position

Senior Health Information Clerk

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Health Information Clerk to join our team in Traverse City, MI. In this role, you will manage the life cycle of the legal medical record after patient discharge, ensuring all information is complete and in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage the life cycle of the legal medical record after patient discharge.
• Perform retrospective record analysis to ensure completeness and compliance.
• Assist with processing birth and death certificates.
• Serve as the point of contact for Advance Care Planning documentation verification.
• Provide general clerical assistance.
• Retrieve discharged medical records and loose documentation from patient care areas.
• Analyze medical records of discharged patients for completeness and accuracy.
• Process Advance Care Planning documents.
• Process birth and death certificates.
• Coordinate the retrieval of medical records from storage.
• Answer and direct telephone calls in a polite and informative manner.
• Perform quality improvement activities as requested.
• Cross-train to assist with workloads.
• Assist with training of new employees.
• Attend meetings as scheduled and assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• 1 year of clerical experience, preferably in healthcare.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and general internet usage.
• Experience in any of these applications is preferred: PowerChart, Kofax scanning, Electronic Birth Certificate, Dolbey transcription/dictation system.
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task with extreme attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as a team player.
