Senior Java Engineer

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer with over 5 years of experience to join our team in Krakow, Poland. You will be building a new Player Account Management (PAM) platform from the ground up.

Our client is a technology company operating in the online sports betting and gaming industry. The company is building its next-generation gaming platform in-house, with a new engineering hub in Poland. The main focus of the Polish team is the development of a new PAM platform, which will replace the existing third-party Playtech solution. The new platform is being built from scratch, giving the engineering team a real opportunity to influence the architecture, technology, and development practices from the very beginning.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Java Engineer to join the team building the backend of a new PAM platform from the ground up. You will develop core transactional services responsible for areas such as player wallets, ledger, payments, bonuses, and account lifecycle. The role offers significant ownership – you will design and implement production services, contribute to technical decisions, and work closely with other engineers involved in the PAM platform. The systems will handle financial transactions and high volumes of traffic, so reliability, data integrity, and high-quality engineering practices are particularly important.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services for the new PAM platform
• Build services covering player wallets, transactions, ledger, payment flows, bonuses, and account management
• Develop REST APIs and event-driven integrations
• Work with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging technologies
• Design solutions with strong transaction boundaries, idempotency, and reliable failure handling
• Work with relational databases, including schema design, transactions, locking, and query performance
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and contract tests
• Contribute to technical discussions, RFCs, and code reviews
• Instrument and operate the services you build using metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting
• Participate in production support and on-call activities when introduced
• Support the migration from the existing third-party platform
• Use AI-assisted development tools as part of your engineering workflow

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+
• Experience with Spring Boot or a similar modern Java framework
• Solid experience working with transactional systems where data integrity is critical
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL or another relational database
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging, preferably Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Good understanding of REST APIs
• Experience with testing practices including unit, integration, and contract testing
• Experience working with containers and CI/CD
• Strong engineering ownership and ability to take responsibility for the solutions you build
• Good written and spoken English

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Background in iGaming, sports betting, fintech, or another regulated, high-transaction-volume environment
• Experience with KYC/AML, responsible gaming, or audit requirements
• Experience with AI coding assistants or agentic development workflows
• Polish and/or Spanish language skills
