Job description
About the Position
We are seeking a Senior Java Full Stack Engineer with expertise in GraphQL and Spring Boot to modernize our partner-facing developer portal.
Location
- City: Bucharest
- Country: Romania
- Remote: Yes
About the Client
Global leader in the online travel and digital marketplace domain, operating large-scale, high-availability platforms serving millions of users worldwide. The organization is strongly technology-driven, with a focus on data, automation, API ecosystems, and regulatory integrations. The environment is enterprise-grade, cloud native, and security-focused.
Project Details
Our client, a large international company in the travel and hospitality space, is modernizing its partner-facing developer portal. Technology partners use this portal to integrate with the client's APIs. Today it runs as a legacy monolith on bare-metal infrastructure. The goal is to turn it into a scalable, self-service partner platform where integrators can:
- Discover APIs
- Configure accounts and connections
- Test integrations
- Complete certification
- Manage access
- Monitor the health of their connections
The project will retire the legacy system, reduce maintenance overhead, and replace manual, email-based processes with automated self-service workflows. This is a modernization role, not greenfield CRUD work. The focus is on clear service boundaries, incremental migration, and running systems reliably in production.
Your Team
You'll join a platform team that owns the partner portal and related developer tooling. Its mission is to give technology partners the best possible experience when building and managing API integrations. These partners include software vendors that sync inventory, pricing, content, and bookings with the client's platform.
The team works closely with API, governance, platform, and security teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and build Java/Spring Boot services and GraphQL APIs for partner-facing workflows.
- Gradually extract functionality from the legacy portal, keeping backward compatibility in place.
- Build or integrate micro-frontends for self-service features such as API health, connection settings, feature toggles, and log lookup.
- Automate partner onboarding: account and API key setup, test access, certification, and API enablement.
- Integrate with an API gateway, key management and access control services, MySQL, and OpenSearch.
- Implement partner-scoped access, machine-account permissions, endpoint-level authorization, audit trails, and secure handling of request data.
- Improve observability through SLOs, OpenTelemetry, structured logging, dashboards, and incident debugging.
- Collaborate with product, partner enablement, API, security, and platform teams.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Strong production experience with Java and Spring Boot. Another JVM framework is acceptable if you're willing to work in Spring Boot.
- Experience designing and operating GraphQL or REST APIs, including contracts, versioning, validation, and error handling.
- Proven experience breaking a monolith or legacy system into independently deployable services.
- Solid grasp of distributed systems: service boundaries, sync/async integration, retries, timeouts, idempotency, data ownership, and failure modes.
- Production ownership: CI/CD, containerized/cloud deployment, monitoring, SLOs, and incident response.
- Practical security experience, such as authentication/authorization, service-to-service security, scoped access, audit trails, or API gateways.
- Ability to work across teams, explain trade-offs, and deliver incrementally.
Nice to have:
- Frontend: Vue 3 (preferred), TypeScript, React, micro-frontends, Module Federation. Strong React/TypeScript experience is fine if you can ramp up on Vue.
- Developer portals, API catalogs, partner onboarding, or certification workflows.
- B2B integrations or travel/hospitality tech.
- AWS, Kubernetes, service mesh.
- API gateways (e.g. Apigee), OAuth, ACL models.
- MySQL/JPA, OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry, request tracing.
- Experience migrating legacy systems off bare-metal or shared-database setups.
- Using automation or AI to improve developer onboarding or troubleshooting.
We Offer
- Interview process that respects people and their time
- Professional and open IT community
- Internal meet-ups and resources for knowledge sharing
- Time for recovery and relaxation
- Bright online and offline events
- Opportunity to become part of our internal volunteer community
