Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

Senior Narrative Designer

Room 8 Group is an end-to-end strategic partner in external game development. Working across all platforms, we provide creative and technical expertise across game development, technology, art, trailers, and QA for AAA and AA games.

Our Game Development team provides comprehensive co-development and full-cycle development solutions across all platforms. We’ve helped make some of the biggest games of the past decade, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and III, and we work with dozens of the world’s biggest publishers and developers.

Through primarily organic growth, we are proudly independent, now home to around 1,100 creatives based in Europe, North America, and South America.

About the Position

The next great challenge is coming:

As a Narrative Designer, you will shape the story and mission narrative of new missions for an established co-operative first-person shooter. Working from the game’s established world, characters, and tone, you will craft the setup, motivation, and in-mission storytelling that give each mission its identity.

You will own the narrative design of the missions in production, writing mission briefings, in-world storytelling, and voiced content while collaborating closely with Level Design, Audio, and the VO Designer. This role demands close, day-to-day collaboration across the team to ensure story and gameplay reinforce one another.

You are expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy and hold your work to an uncompromising standard.

Responsibilities

  • Craft the setup, motivation, and in-mission storytelling for new missions.
  • Write mission briefings, in-world dialogue, barks, and voiced content.
  • Collaborate with Level Design to integrate story into gameplay and environmental storytelling.
  • Partner with the VO Designer and Audio team to script and deliver voiced content.
  • Maintain consistency with the game’s established lore, characters, and voice.
  • Adapt writing to a non-linear, replayable structure.
  • Maintain detailed narrative documentation.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional experience in Narrative Design or Game Writing on AA/AAA PC or console titles.
  • At least one shipped title with substantial narrative or writing ownership.
  • Proven ability to write systemic, non-linear, and replayable game narrative, including barks and reactive dialogue.
  • Experience collaborating with Level Design to integrate story into gameplay and environmental storytelling.
  • Experience preparing scripts for VO recording and working with voice actors and VO recording partners.
  • Strong understanding of writing for co-operative multiplayer experiences.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with heist, crime, or genre-action fiction.
  • Experience writing for live-service or episodic content.

We Offer

  • Opportunity to work with a leading game development company.
  • Collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Chance to contribute to high-profile AAA and AA games.
  • Remote work options.
