Senior Platform Engineer

This is a role in the R&D team, where engineers from different areas come together to create and improve products that have already proven their effectiveness in hundreds of thousands of missions.

The team is expanding and looking for a Senior Platform Engineer who will join the development of innovative solutions, test new approaches, and see their solutions validated and scaled to hundreds of thousands of products.

Responsibilities

• Building and developing a Kubernetes platform on GCP from the early stage: designing GKE clusters, multi-cluster fleets, and creating baselines for their deployment.
• Creating self-service tools for development teams: developing templates, ready scenarios (golden paths), and CI/CD processes that will allow product teams to independently deploy and run their services.
• Managing the platform as code (Platform as Code): ensuring reproducibility of clusters and baseline configurations, as well as automating and reviewing any infrastructure changes.
• Establishing network security standards: configuring default-deny principles, Ingress/Gateway, access control systems (RBAC), secrets management, and supply-chain hardening.
• Implementing observability and ensuring reliability: setting up metrics collection, logs, traces, SLO monitoring, and alerting systems.
• Maintaining infrastructure in an up-to-date and efficient state: updating GKE and node-pools, updating add-ons and dependencies, optimizing capacities, and controlling infrastructure costs.
• Managing the incident response process: finding root causes of failures at all levels of the stack and automating recovery processes (full restart/rebuild of the system from code).
• Interacting with product teams as internal clients: transforming their technical needs into ready and convenient solutions (paved roads), continuously improving Developer Experience (DX).

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering, with at least 3 years working with Kubernetes in a production environment.
• Deep experience in administering GKE clusters throughout their lifecycle through IaC: deployment (node pools, Workload Identity, private clusters), setting baseline standards, and updates (release channels, surge or blue-green deployment).
• Experience in building and managing multi-channel infrastructures (multi-cluster / fleet setups) for different environments and product teams.
• Practical experience in creating self-service tools for the platform (templates, modules, golden paths) that internal development teams have successfully integrated into their work.
• Expertise in Kubernetes network technologies on GKE: network policy, ingress/Gateway, Services, DNS, load balancing, and Dataplane V2.
• Solid knowledge of Linux and system components: strong skills in finding and resolving root causes of failures at the compute, network, and storage levels.
• Proficiency in Terraform or OpenTofu at the production level: designing modules, working with remote state, and configuring multi-environment environments.
• Experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) with automated deployment and rollbacks, as well as confident work with Helm and Kustomize.
• Practical experience working with the Google Cloud ecosystem beyond GKE: IAM, VPC, Cloud DNS, GCS.
• Understanding of the Observability concept: experience with Prometheus, Grafana, centralized logging systems, SLO monitoring, and alerting systems.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes security standards: secrets management, RBAC, network policies, image scanning, and supply-chain awareness.
• Scripting skills: confident proficiency in Bash, as well as experience in Python or Go.
• Experience in planning and testing disaster recovery: full rebuild of the cluster or entire environment from code using a verified and validated recovery scenario.
