Job description
About the Position
At Ocean Infinity, we're on a bold mission to revolutionize subsea data using innovative technology. Using cutting-edge robotics, autonomous technology, and world-class software, we're transforming how complex operations are carried out at sea. Our uncrewed systems are making ocean exploration and operations safer, smarter, and more sustainable, helping unlock the vast potential of our oceans while reducing environmental impact. π
This isn't a vision for the future. It's happening right now.
As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation and redefine what's possible in the maritime industry, we're looking for exceptional talent to join our fast-growing team.
Ocean Infinity is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help build, operate, and evolve the systems, tooling, and infrastructure that support our software delivery and platform operations.
In this role, you'll be taking ownership of key platform components and contribute to the foundations that enable engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate services reliably at scale. You'll work on improving internal tooling, strengthening observability and operational practices, and ensuring teams have the self-service capabilities required to confidently manage their services.
You'll report to the Core Engineering Lead and collaborate closely with teams across the organization, providing hands-on technical support, architectural input, and practical solutions that strengthen the company's core engineering platform.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve core platform systems, contribute to the architecture and implementation strategy of cloud, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and internal tooling foundations that support the operations across the organization.
- Drive high-impact platform improvements, own and deliver enhancements across infrastructure, deployments, and automation to improve reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Build for resilience and efficiency, develop platform capabilities that are secure, fault-tolerant, and easy for product teams to adopt.
- Enhance developer productivity, create internal tools, services, and workflows that aim to reduce friction and help engineers build, test, and deploy faster and smoother.
- Strengthen observability and operations, improve monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure visibility across environments and support fast, effective incident response.
- Solve complex technical challenges, investigate and resolve issues across distributed systems, cloud services, networking, and Kubernetes, and translate findings into measurable improvements.
- Collaborate across teams, work closely with engineering and product teams to support new features, troubleshoot integration issues, and ensure services run reliably on the platform.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, stay current with cloud-native and DevOps ecosystems, bringing in tools and approaches that aim to improve delivery speed, reliability, and developer experience.
- Promote platform standards and best practices, help establish and reinforce patterns that lead to secure, scalable, and well-operated services.
Requirements
What we look for! π
- You have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- You bring in 5+ years of experience working in Platform Engineering, SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure-focused software development.
- You have a strong experience with Cloud environments (Azure preferred) and understand the fundamentals of cloud networking, identity, compute, and storage.
- You have deep, hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production, including deployments, troubleshooting, networking, and day-to-day operations.
- You are comfortable running and operating containerized services at scale.
- You work confidently with infrastructure-as-code to automate deployments, environments, and operational workflows.
- You have experience owning, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, internal tooling, or automation that supports development operations.
- Youβre comfortable troubleshooting issues across distributed systems, networking, containers, and cloud services.
- You have a strong understanding of monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting and appreciate the value that a strong observability setup brings to an organization.
Nice to Have
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or familiarity with modern Kubernetes configuration approaches β operators, GitOps controllers, or similar.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, cluster lifecycle, and multi-cluster patterns.
- Experience operating and supporting platforms across Azure and on-prem environments, including practical experience with Windows Servers and Linux systems.
- Solid understanding of distributed system concepts, including service networking, messaging patterns, and event-driven designs.
- Good grasp of software architecture fundamentals such as CQRS, domain-driven principles, and how backend services interact with modern cloud-native environments.
- Understanding of structured observability concepts β metrics, traces, logs β even if not specialized in any single stack.
We Offer
- Salary: Β£100,000 Per Annum
