Job description
About the Position
Senior Product Designer - Barcelona Hybrid
Barcelona, Spain
About the Role
This role focuses on the core of the system: building components, maintaining our Figma libraries, and creating documentation that helps other designers use the system effectively.
You'll work with the Design Systems; this includes building new components and refining existing ones. The work requires someone who's detail-oriented, thinks systematically, and understands how design systems scale.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Product Designer, you will:
- Build and refine components: Create new components based on product team needs and improve existing ones to handle edge cases, accessibility requirements, and multi-brand applications.
- Maintain and organize our Figma libraries: Ensure they're structured clearly, documented well, and easy for other designers to use.
- Create clear, useful documentation: Help designers understand when and how to use components correctly.
- Work with design tokens and Figma variables: Ensure the system supports theming, multi-brand needs, and maintainability at scale.
- Help bridge Index and product-area extensions: Ensure patterns flow appropriately between the core system and the specialized libraries that build on it.
- Partner with engineering: On design-to-code alignment when needed, helping ensure what's in Figma matches what gets built.
- Work independently while staying connected: Manage your own work, communicate proactively about progress and blockers, and stay aligned on priorities through async collaboration.
- Maintain high craft standards: In everything you contribute. Design systems work is detail work-precision and consistency matter.
Requirements
We’re looking for someone who has:
- 4+ years of product design experience, with meaningful time spent working on or contributing to design systems.
- A portfolio showing design systems work: Whether building components, creating documentation, or establishing patterns.
- Strong Figma skills: Including experience with component architecture, variants, auto-layout, and variables.
- Experience with design tokens: And an understanding of how they enable theming, consistency, and multi-brand support.
- Solid understanding of design fundamentals: Typography, spacing, color, and interaction patterns.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG): And how they apply to component design.
- Strong documentation skills: You can write clearly and create guidelines that people actually read and follow.
- Ability to work independently: And manage your own priorities. You're proactive about communicating and don't need constant check-ins to stay on track.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience: In Design, HCI, or related field.
Nice to Have
- Understanding of how design systems connect to code (CSS, React component APIs, etc.)
- Experience with design system versioning and contribution workflows
- Familiarity with multi-brand or white-label design system challenges
- Experience working with distributed or fully remote teams
- Background in news media, publishing, or content-heavy products
- Knowledge of design system tooling beyond Figma (Storybook, Zeroheight, etc.)
- AI Tooling Proficiency: Leverage one or more AI tools to optimize and augment day-to-day work, including drafting, analysis, research, or process automation. Provide recommendations on effective AI use and identify opportunities to streamline workflows.
