Job Description, Responsibilities & Requirements

About the Position

Our Customer is on a mission to give children a strong start in school by building playful, impactful digital learning products. As a Senior QA Engineer (Hybrid Manual & Automation), you will be the key driver of quality across a hybrid React Native + Unity app, ensuring that both the educational and gameplay experiences are robust, reliable, and fun.

You will join a small, cross-functional product team and take ownership of both defining the QA strategy and executing it hands-on. The role is intentionally hybrid: about half of your time will be spent on test automation (E2E, API and integration), and the other half on structured manual and exploratory testing, release verification, and improving the way the team works with quality.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining automated E2E and API tests for the React Native app and Unity gameplay flows.
  • Evolving the current Maestro-based E2E setup and shaping a testing approach that spans both React Native and Unity.
  • Defining test strategies, regression suites, and release checklists from scratch, based on product risk and usage.
  • Performing manual functional and exploratory testing on new features, complex flows (e.g., subscriptions, accounts, kids’ gameplay), and high-risk areas.
  • Integrating tests into existing CI/CD pipelines and ensuring the team can rely on fast, stable feedback from automated suites.
  • Owning the bug lifecycle: from investigation, clear documentation, and prioritization through to verification of fixes.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience as a QA Engineer with a strong mix of manual and automated testing.
  • Solid experience in mobile QA, ideally with React Native and/or Unity products in production.
  • Professional experience in TypeScript and/or C# for writing and maintaining automated tests.
  • Proven track record of building or significantly improving QA processes (test strategy, regression suites, release testing) rather than only following existing frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience designing E2E and API automation and integrating it into CI/CD (any common tools; current stack uses GitHub and cloud test services).
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills; able to collaborate closely with a distributed team.

Nice to Have

  • Pragmatic & hands-on: You understand when automation adds value and when fast, manual exploratory testing is the better choice, especially in a hybrid app with both gameplay and learning flows.
  • Process builder: Comfortable being the first dedicated QA in the team, defining ways of working instead of inheriting large enterprise frameworks.
  • Ownership mentality: You take initiative, suggest improvements, and don’t need detailed instructions to move forward.
  • Risk-based thinker: Able to quickly identify high-risk areas in complex flows (accounts, subscriptions, gameplay, integrations) and prioritize your testing accordingly.
  • Collaborative communicator: Enjoys working tightly with Developers, product, and design, and can clearly explain test results, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Curious about AI & new tools: Interested in exploring how AI-assisted testing and tooling can improve coverage and efficiency.

We Offer

  • Opportunity to shape the QA function and experiment with new approaches, including using AI-assisted testing and tooling.
  • Work in a purpose-driven EdTech company focused on making high-quality learning accessible, engaging, and fun for children.
  • Collaborate with a compact, cross-functional product team of around 6–8 people.
  • Hybrid work location with a focus on remote work.
