Senior Software Engineer - Rules Platform

About the Position

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Rules Platform team in Tallinn, Estonia.

Responsibilities

• Building and evolving our Rules Platform: Developing reliable, scalable backend services and reusable internal libraries used by multiple Engineering teams.
• Driving technical design and architecture decisions: For complex distributed systems where performance, reliability, and data consistency are critical.
• Improving platform performance and reliability: Monitoring service-level objectives (SLOs), identifying bottlenecks, and driving improvements.
• Collaborating across teams: Working closely with Product Managers and Engineers to understand their needs, prioritize improvements, and make the platform easier to use and extend.
• Taking ownership of meaningful Engineering initiatives: From identifying problems and evaluating trade-offs through to implementation and delivery.
• Supporting Engineering excellence: Contributing to technical discussions, code reviews, and mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with JVM-based languages: Such as Java or Kotlin, and building complex backend systems.
• Experience with Kafka, SQL databases, and distributed systems, particularly where reliability and data consistency matter.
• Experience building or maintaining internal libraries, shared components, or reusable Engineering solutions consumed by multiple teams.
• Confidence in system design and technical decision-making, including evaluating trade-offs and proposing architectural improvements.
• A strong product mindset, with the ability to understand the needs of internal users and work closely with Product Managers.
• Experience mentoring other Engineers and contributing to Engineering best practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and explain technical decisions clearly.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Spring / Spring Boot and build tooling.
• Experience in FinTech, FinCrime, or risk-related systems.
• Familiarity with regulated environments where auditability, traceability, and governance are important.
