Senior SQL Server & PostgreSQL DBA

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Server & PostgreSQL DBA to manage, support, optimize, and enhance enterprise database environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in database administration, SQL development, performance tuning, migration, and production support.

This role requires hands-on experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and cloud-managed database services, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with application development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases across development, testing, and production environments.
• Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
• Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and other database objects.
• Analyze and optimize query performance through execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, partitioning, and database tuning techniques.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, replication failures, and production incidents.
• Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, replication, clustering, and PostgreSQL replication.
• Support database migration, modernization, and cloud adoption initiatives, including SQL Server to PostgreSQL migrations and on-premise to cloud transitions.
• Administer cloud database platforms including AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Develop database deployment, automation, and maintenance scripts using SQL, Python, or Bash.
• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, database releases, schema changes, and application performance improvements.
• Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and security while ensuring adherence to operational and compliance standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in Database Administration and SQL Development.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server DBA activities supporting mission-critical production environments.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
• Experience with query tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing, database optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with database migration, schema conversion, data migration, and modernization projects.
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Strong understanding of backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and database security best practices.
• Experience with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with database deployment tools, version control, and CI/CD processes.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to Flyway, Liquibase, Alembic, or similar database migration tools.
• Experience working in multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of database monitoring, observability, and capacity planning tools.
