Job description

About the Position

Take your career to new heights with the Astronics team as a Senior Training Specialist!

In aerospace, precision isn't optional, it's essential. Every solder joint, torque specification, and assembly procedure impacts safety and reliability. To help us continue to uphold our high standards, we're seeking a Senior Operations Trainer to develop our manufacturing workforce in high-precision electro-mechanical assembly.

If you have experience in training program development for technicians, assemblers, and inspectors, and a passion for people and processes, this is the role for you! Create technical materials and certification documentation, collaborate across Operations, Engineering, Quality, and EH&S to address skill gaps and support new product introductions, and see your impact in the day-to-day functions of a busy production floor.

Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while working onsite in East Aurora, and enjoy a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver hands-on training programs for operators, technicians, assemblers, and inspectors involved in electro-mechanical assembly, testing, inspection, and production processes.
  • Train employees on assembly techniques, wiring and cable harness standards, soldering, torque requirements, precision measurement, testing procedures, inspection methods, and equipment operation.
  • Create and maintain training materials including work instructions, visual aids, manuals, presentations, and digital learning modules.
  • Ensure training aligns with AS9100, IPC standards, ESD/FOD controls, and internal manufacturing procedures.
  • Evaluate trainee competency through written assessments, practical demonstrations, and on-the-job performance verification.
  • Maintain training records, certifications, and compliance documentation using LMS platforms such as Litmos.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, EH&S, and Learning & Development teams to identify training needs, address skill gaps, and support new product introduction (NPI).
  • Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and cross-training employees to support workforce flexibility and operational continuity.
  • Promote safe work practices and reinforce adherence to quality and workmanship standards.
  • Continuously improve training content and methods based on operational feedback, process updates, and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace, electro-mechanical assembly, or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical manufacturing training.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, IPC standards, and controlled manufacturing documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and process documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with soldering, wiring, crimping, torque systems, and precision assembly tools.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and instructional skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing.
  • IPC certifications (such as IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or IPC/WHMA-A-620).
  • Train-the-Trainer certification or formal instructional experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma training.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or structured workforce training programs.

We Offer

  • Competitive base salary with quarterly bonus opportunities.
  • 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
  • 401(k) with company contribution and discounted Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life benefits.
  • Week-long Christmas shutdown and paid holidays.
  • An engaging culture that values integrity, teamwork, and innovation.
  • Purpose-driven work, contributing directly to products that shape the aerospace industry.
