About the Position
We're looking for a Senior Trino Power User Analyst to join our team in Zurich, Switzerland in a hybrid working mode. In this role, you will design, deploy and optimize Trino clusters for large-scale data environments. You will ensure high availability, performance and fault tolerance of distributed systems while enabling efficient query execution across diverse data sources. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with data engineers, architects and analysts in shaping modern data architectures, including lakehouses and federated query solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy and operate Trino clusters in on-premise Kubernetes environments
- Configure Trino catalogs and connectors for heterogeneous data sources such as Hive, Iceberg, Kafka and object storage
- Optimize query performance through tuning of memory, CPU allocation, spill strategy and partitioning
- Implement workload management strategies using resource groups and concurrency controls
- Ensure scalability and fault tolerance of Trino clusters for critical analytics workloads
- Monitor query latency, cluster performance and system health using observability tools
- Troubleshoot query failures, resource contention, and system-level issues
- Collaborate with analytics teams to promote best practices for efficient data access
- Contribute to decision-making for architecture related to data lakehouses and distributed analytics
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in distributed data platforms or big data infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with deploying and operating Trino or Presto clusters
- Proficiency with Kubernetes and containerized workloads
- Experience integrating data sources such as Hive Metastore, Iceberg tables and Kafka
- Strong background in distributed query optimization and performance tuning
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or Dynatrace
- Familiarity with security and access control mechanisms (LDAP, Kerberos, RBAC)
- Strong understanding of Trino architecture including coordinator/worker roles, query planning and resource groups
- Scripting skills in Python or Bash for automation tasks
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English, knowledge of German is a plus
