Shopify Team Lead

About the Position
We are looking for an experienced Shopify Team Lead to join our tight-knit ecommerce team and strengthen it. We are a trusted Shopify partner and top-rated ecommerce developers in Ukraine. As we continue to expand our ecommerce department, we need a driven leader who can guide a team of developers, uphold high engineering standards, and actively leverage automation tools to streamline and accelerate delivery processes. Responsibilities
Client & Project
- Lead client communication on all technical and non-technical matters (status updates, solution proposals, meetings)
- Proactively identify client needs and propose new functionality to drive upsell opportunities
- Collaborate with designers to assess Shopify feasibility and guide design decisions accordingly
- Provide accurate estimates on work items and oversee delivery timelines
- Deliver PR reviews and support the team in deploying changes to the store
- Provide technical expertise to choose the best solution for each project
- Write and maintain technical documentation for features, integrations, and project-specific solutions
- Ensure the team has all required accesses (store, GitHub, design, project board, communication tools)
- Lead technical onboarding of team members onto project-specific technologies and integrations
- Cooperate with the project manager in describing requirements, delegating tasks, and planning team workload
- Monitor development progress and collect regular updates from the team
- Facilitate sprint retrospective meetings and address recurring blockers
- Make scope and priority decisions on ambiguous or out-of-scope issues during development
Team
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of Shopify developers, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement
- Conduct regular 1:1 meetings and track individual hard skill growth according to the internal skills grade matrix
- Resolve interpersonal conflicts and negative situations within the team
- Motivate team members and serve as a technical and behavioral role model
- Approve sick leaves and vacation requests in coordination with project managers
- Track Shopify platform updates and proactively inform and educate the team
- Conduct technical interview meetings with new candidates and participate in hiring decisions
- Support the onboarding and exit/offboarding process for team members
- Plan and organize team-building activities
- Actively implement and advocate for automation tools and AI-driven workflows across the team
- Introduce and promote the LLM development approach and follow new LLM development practices
Company & C-Level
- Participate in presale calls alongside the CEO/CTO/Sales team to help scope and propose solutions to potential clients
- Prepare initial estimates and conduct technical investigation for presale opportunities
- Maintain regular communication with the CTO on Shopify platform updates, improvements, and strategic initiatives
- Collaborate with other team leads on individual and team roadmaps and cross-team process improvements
Requirements
Technical knowledge
- 5+ years of commercial experience with Shopify
- 1+ year of experience in a team lead or similar leadership role
- Proficiency in developing using Shopify/Shopify Plus
- Expertise in Shopify Plus exclusive features (Shopify Functions, UI extensions, B2B)
- Solid understanding of Shopify 2.0 and its benefits in comparison with Shopify 1.0
- Proficiency and commercial experience working with GraphQL
- Strong command of frontend development using JS, Liquid, HTML5/CSS3, Sass
- Experience in Shopify app development using Node.js/React Router/Remix
- Strong experience in Agentic and/or Spec-driven development of Shopify projects
- Strong experience using LLM tools to automate daily routine and development processes
- Active use of automation tools to streamline and accelerate development workflows
- Experience with project tracking software (Jira, Asana, ClickUp)
- Understanding of GitFlow and its best practices
- In-depth knowledge of the complete ecommerce life cycle
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical contexts
- At least Upper-Intermediate English level or higher
