Job description

About the Position

Site Reliability Engineer (w/m/d) – Observability & Internal Tools

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our System Operations team in Berlin, fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Take Ownership: Become the guardian and architect of smartclip's internal infrastructure. Develop observability and automation of "tools we use" into a true platform capability that supports and makes every other engineer in the company more productive.
  • Drive Observability Stack: Advance Prometheus, Grafana, and Forgejo. Develop these tools into a top-tier monitoring ecosystem.
  • Design for Reliability: Create meaningful and actionable alerts and define SLOs to move from reactive "firefighting" to proactive stability.
  • Promote Open Source: Evaluate and implement modern open-source alternatives to proprietary software. Decide which technologies to include in our stack and how they integrate.
  • Secure Delivery Pipeline: Integrate security engineering directly into our development and delivery process. Identify vulnerabilities before penetration testing does.
  • Master Infrastructure: Dive deep into Linux systems and distributed tools. Combine bold experimentation with a highly stable production environment.

Requirements

  • Observability Know-how: Proven experience in implementing metrics, logs, and traces. Understand how to derive concrete and actionable insights from large amounts of data and signals.
  • Linux & Systems Engineering: Comfortable in the terminal and understand how distributed systems communicate and why they fail.
  • Automation Mindset: Dislike repeating the same task twice. Use code to automate infrastructure and eliminate unnecessary manual work.
  • Ownership Mentality: Live by the philosophy "You build it, you run it" and take responsibility for the stability of the systems you work on.

Nice to Have

  • Practical experience with GCP or AWS in production on a large scale.
  • Active engagement in the open-source community or a portfolio of self-hosted projects.

We Offer

  • Remote Work with Targeted Meetings: Predominantly remote work with occasional meetings in our Berlin tech office for workshops, team sessions, and company-wide events. Participation in annual company offsites in different locations across Germany is expected.
  • Autonomy: Take responsibility for your tasks and drive them forward independently.
  • Build > Talk: Experiment early, make mistakes early, and learn quickly.
  • High Standards, Low Ego: Direct feedback and open, respectful collaboration.
  • Professional Development: Utilize hackathons, conferences, and community exchanges to grow your expertise.

And of course, the conditions also match: 30 vacation days plus time off on December 24th and 31st, Smart Fridays with the possibility of a four-day workweek, Deutschlandticket and JobRad, sports and health offers, mental health support, corporate benefits, access to RTL+, and much more.
