Software Development Engineer in Test (Embedded Systems)

This position is in the R&D team that develops and manufactures equipment and electronic solutions that work in real battlefield conditions, not in beautiful presentations for investors.

The company is rapidly scaling, establishing processes, and strengthening teams.

Due to the expansion of the R&D department, we are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test for the team that develops hardware for automated testing of products. Their solutions will be implemented in hundreds of thousands of products, change the course of history, and ensure Ukraine's technological advantage for decades to come.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team and related teams to determine the strategy and priorities for testing firmware and devices
• Manual and automated testing of devices: functional, regression, stress, long-term (soak/endurance)
• Requirements analysis, test design, writing and maintaining test plans and test cases for new devices and features
• Development of automated tests in Python (pytest) and maintenance of the test framework
• Development of internal tools and scripts in Python and Bash: log parsers, report generators, CLI for working with devices
• Working with test benches: power management, firmware of DUT, reading UART logs, interaction via USB/UART/I²C/SPI
• Storing and analyzing test run and measurement results in the database, building samples and reports for quality assessment
• Integrating tests into CI/CD, analyzing test run results, working with unstable tests
• Localizing defects to the firmware or hardware level, clear bug reports, supporting fixes with firmware engineers
• Participating in code reviews of test code and internal tools

Requirements

• Experience in testing embedded systems or hardware products
• Proficient in Python: OOP, working with files and data, writing maintainable code, virtual environments
• pytest: fixtures, parameterization, markers, reporting
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL/SQLite): solid knowledge of SQL, understanding of data schema, writing queries for selecting and analyzing test results; basic experience with ORM (SQLAlchemy or Django ORM)
• Bash scripting and confident work in Linux (command line, SSH, systemd)
• Understanding of testing theory: test design, types and levels of testing, coverage criteria, working with a bug tracker
• Working with serial interfaces (pyserial) and laboratory equipment: oscilloscope, power supply, multimeter
• Basic understanding of microcontrollers (STM32 or similar), firmware, and the flashing process
• Git and pull request workflow
• Ability to work in a team, negotiate with developers, and justify priorities
• English at the level of reading datasheets and technical documentation

Nice to Have

• Robot Framework, labgrid, OpenHTF, or other frameworks for testing on real hardware
• Experience in building test benches from scratch, including using Raspberry Pi as a host
• C/C++ at the level of reading firmware and understanding logs
• JTAG/SWD, OpenOCD/J-Link
• Wireless protocols (BLE, LoRa, Wi-Fi, sub-GHz) and working with traffic analyzers
• Setting up CI/CD (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions), Docker
• Processing and visualizing measurement data (numpy, pandas, matplotlib)
• API testing (requests, REST)
• Experience with AI agents for development (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.)
• Experience in mass production testing (production/EOL)
