Job description

About the Position

Software Development Manager

As Software Development Manager, you hold a pivotal people-first role within our development organisation, reporting directly to the CTO. Rather than writing code or architecting systems, your mission is to support the people who do - leading a diverse group of 10–15 engineers as a dedicated coach. Together with your team, you build a thriving engineering culture that blends hard and soft skills. And you don't stop at day-to-day coaching: you look for ways to remove friction and help the team work smarter, including with AI.

Time to grow. Time to thrive.

We are Nmbrs. We build smart business software that removes unnecessary complexity for SMEs and the professionals who support them. Nmbrs brings together four established product organisations - Payroll, Accounting, Invoicing and Reporting - with teams across the Netherlands, Sweden and Portugal.

We are one brand with a shared ambition, while continuing to work from the expertise and strengths of our individual organisations. We join forces where it makes sense, while keeping teams, expertise and decision-making close together.

For this role, you'll join Nmbrs Accounting in Rotterdam, working closely with the colleagues in your local team while being part of the wider Nmbrs organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor & manage performance: Provide day-to-day mentorship and performance management for your group of engineers, tailoring your approach to each role - a QA specialist needs different coaching than a developer.
  • Optimize Developer Experience (DX): Take a proactive role in reviewing and refining our software engineering processes to remove friction and make our developers' lives easier.
  • Drive innovation as an AI evangelist: Act as a key advocate for AI and agentic-supported coding, helping the team embrace and integrate modern tools to work smarter.
  • Bridge strategy and execution: Keep a keen eye on the overall roadmap and planning, working across teams to spot (in)efficiencies and ensure our engineering engine runs smoothly.
  • Cultivate visibility: Support developers in improving their communication and "internal brand," ensuring their hard work is recognized and aligned with the company's goals.

Requirements

  • Proven experience mentoring and managing people in diverse technical roles (e.g. QA, front-end, back-end).
  • A solid grasp of the.NET ecosystem and various front-end frameworks (Vue.js, React, etc.) - you won't be coding, but you speak the team's language.
  • A conceptual understanding of AWS infrastructure and Azure DevOps pipelines, so you understand your team's blockers.
  • Openness to AI-driven development tools and modern methodologies that support and empower your developers' daily work.
  • Professional proficiency in English, spoken and written.

Nice to Have

  • A strong command of Dutch.

We Offer

  • Personal development: A generous training budget, available directly after your probation period, for specialized certifications, courses, and training to solidify your technical expertise.
  • Time off and flexibility: 28 vacation days (and the option to buy 5 extra days), plus the possibility of Workation: up to 5 weeks per year of remote work.
  • Well-being & focus: Access to lifestyle coaches, healthy lunches, and other initiatives that contribute to your well-being and focus, including the possibility to lease a bike via Lease-a-Bike.
  • Financial security: A salary range of €6000 to €7000 gross per month (excluding holiday allowance), depending on your experience. With attractive benefits, including full pension coverage.
  • Optimal workplace: The best hardware, including a home-office budget to set up your remote workspace.
  • Plenty of opportunities: Enjoy the speed and autonomy of an innovative tech-collective backed by the stability, vast resources, and global career network of the Visma Group.
  • Team & culture: Participate in team-building days and other Nmbrs events that strengthen the close team spirit in a diverse and international environment.
