Job description
About the Position
Software Engineer - Associate
Lisbon, Portugal
As a Software Engineer on the Fund Accounting team, you'll have the opportunity to shape the platforms and systems that define how our operations run at scale. This is a full-stack, end-to-end engineering role where your contributions - from architecture decisions to shipped features - directly improve efficiency, automation, and accuracy across fund finance workflows used by industry-leading institutions.
You'll partner closely with Product Management through the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to delivery, building solutions that solve real, high-stakes problems in a domain where precision and scale both matter.
On the technical side, you'll work primarily with Ruby on Rails on the backend and React on the frontend. We value strong engineering fundamentals - if you bring a solid technical foundation and the drive to build exceptional products, you'll have full support to ramp on our technologies through mentorship and hands-on experience.
Familiarity with finance and accounting concepts is a plus. Over time, domain knowledge becomes a meaningful force multiplier when your work is directly automating complex financial processes at the heart of the alternative investments industry.
Responsibilities
- Backend feature development using Ruby (3.3.x) and Rails (8.x)
- Frontend application development using React and Redux
- Development of unit and integration tests using RSpec, Cucumber, and Capybara
- Building prototypes and proof-of-concepts (POCs)
- Active participation in recurring team meetings and ceremonies
- Participation in peer code reviews as part of our SDLC and change management processes
Requirements
- Degree in Software Engineering or a related field
- 6+ years of full-stack web application development
- 6+ years of development experience with React and Ruby on Rails
- Experience with frameworks such as Python / Elixir, PHP / Laravel or similar may compensate for less direct Ruby on Rails experience
- 6+ years of HTML and CSS development
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts, data modeling, normalization, and object-relational mapping (ORM)
- Passion for learning and adopting new technologies
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Excellent communication skills
- Collaborative approach to software development
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Portuguese fluency is required for positions based in Portugal
- Prior experience in the financial industry, including asset and wealth management, hedge funds, or investment banking, will be valued
