The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Full Stack Developer to join our team. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying high-performance, scalable web applications that are critical to Okta's success. This role is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex, large-scale systems, contribute to core backend services, and potentially explore integrations with AI technologies. A specific focus for this role will be contributing to the development and evolution of Compass, our internal data and knowledge platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and features using React on the frontend and Java on the backend.
  • Lead the development of backend services and APIs, ensuring high performance, stability, and scalability.
  • Drive key features and improvements within Compass, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for internal users.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical specifications and deliver high-quality software.
  • Contribute to setting technical direction and best practices for the team.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and operational support.
  • Good to have: Integrate and optimize AI-assisted coding tools within the existing development pipeline to streamline developer experience and enhance engineering efficiency.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in full stack software development.
  • Deep expertise in front-end development using React (or similar modern JavaScript frameworks).
  • Strong proficiency in backend development using Java and the Spring ecosystem (or similar Java frameworks).
  • Solid experience designing and implementing scalable, RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Proven ability to design and interact with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Designed and implemented relational database schemas (PostgreSQL) and optimized complex SQL queries to support high-traffic application features.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
  • Familiarity with AI concepts or experience leveraging AI-assisted tools in the development workflow.

Nice to Have

  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms like AWS, including serverless services and infrastructure as code using terraform
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure/platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Experience with packaging and distributing containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes
