Software Engineer I, Backend (Collections)

About the Position

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Collections team, as part of the Repayments area, is on a mission to build a robust platform that will maximize the recovery of delinquent users by sending the right message to the right people at the right time, while monitoring and detecting problems and ensuring high reliability of the engineering systems. We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer I, Backend (Collections) to join our remote team in Spain. You will work closely with your team mates in the Collections team and Product to build robust collections solutions which will enable us to keep our loans portfolio healthy and help our customers pay on time and recover from any delays.

Responsibilities

• Work on tasks that contribute to the team's projects and goals with the support of your team.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for this role as a requirement.
• Collaborate closely with your team and stakeholders, bringing them along for your work and helping to create visibility and dialog regarding the risks and trade-offs related to your work.
• Strike the right balance of speed and quality in your work, ensuring that we hit our business goals while protecting our systems from downtime.
• Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities.

Requirements

• Previous work or internship experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems, and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Mastery in taking a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, and executing on it by writing clear, easily understood, well-tested, and extensible code.
• Comfort in navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback to other engineers through code reviews.
• Demonstrated experience in taking ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.

• Competitive Salary: Base pay range per year: 57,000 - 87,000 EUR.
