Job description

Software Engineer (Java) - Warehouse Automation

Engineering 📍 Amsterdam

About the Position

Our Java teams in the Warehouse Systems domain are the reason why our warehouses can process the volume of groceries they do! From dealing with inbound items, to sending totes across the warehouse on conveyor belts, to sending the groceries off to our delivery drivers - our software developers build tools and automations to power the entire warehouse platform. Through designing, developing, and testing new features, or improving the scalability and security of our platform: you’ll be managing individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, while finding yourself fully immersed in an engaging scaleup culture.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership: Take ownership of projects from concept to delivery, aligning technical solutions with business goals.
  • Problem solving: You see a problem, you tackle it with technology - with your users always in mind.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate on cross-team initiatives involving complex systems to ensure smooth flows in our warehouses.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree (in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related technical field) or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience with Java and a profound understanding of back-end development.
  • Product mindset and experience with AI tooling.
  • Comfortable with agentic engineering.
  • Fluent in English (no Dutch required).
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the Netherlands.

Tech Stack

  • Core: Java 21/25 (Spring 6 with Spring Boot 3.5, Reactor, Immutables, Maven), RabbitMQ, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Git, Docker, AWS, Helm, Terraform, Kubernetes, Vault, Datadog, Python 3.x

Nice to Have

  • Experience with the mentioned tech stack.

We Offer

  • Mastery is a journey! You’ll get plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself and grow, including the Picnic Tech Academy, Lunch & Learn sessions, and tailored soft skills training.
  • Make a difference by working on real-world problems, seeing the impact of your work every day in our warehouses and in our satisfied customers.
  • Teamwork makes the dream work with more than 80 nationalities across 3 countries.
  • You are what you eat with freshly prepared, healthy lunches and snacks (with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and halal options).
  • Stay healthy with mental health support, sports communities, and events.
  • Attractive package with competitive compensation, a pension plan, and 25 vacation days per year.
  • Benefits for expats to support you in starting a new job and moving to a new country.
